Died?

[edit]

A recent edit to this article said that Byron Nelson died earlier today. I looked on Google News and ESPN.com and couldn't find any articles to back that up, so I reverted the edits. Could someone provide a link to a news article about his death, if he has died? --Idont Havaname (Talk) 05:29, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

KTCK AM in Dallas is confirming the story at 2:55pm - P1 in Houston

The NOS also confirms his death (in Dutch) [1]. SportsAddicted 01:45, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Christianity

[edit]

I'll look for reliable sources to cite for this area, but we definitely should add at least a line or two about his strong religious beliefs. In the days after his death, this is the second most commented aspect of his life in the discussions of him that I heard around Dallas, coming after only his fame for golf. Gold Dust Twins

[edit]

Hello all, I created the Harold "Jug" McSpaden article a while back. In it I included information about McSpaden and Nelson's charity appearances during the war years. At one point I had added a link to that page under the "see also" section of this page, but it's been edited out. If the consensus is that the "see also" link is inappropriate (although I do think it's a good link to include here) then I think the Gold Dust Twins information should be added to the Nelson page directly. Instead of including it in the "See also" section, I think it would be better to make a separate paragraph about the "Gold Dust Twins" and having the wikilink to McSpaden in there. Supertigerman 13:39, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Classification

[edit]

A solid B rating. Probably just need a few more footnotes to back up the info, then expand a little and put up for GA status. Aboutmovies 21:10, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Needed fixes to become GA

[edit]
  • Since this article is about a person, please add {{persondata|PLEASE SEE [[WP:PDATA]]!}} along with the required parameters to the article - see Wikipedia:Persondata for more information.[?]
  • 2nd sentance of lead is POV unless sourced
  • Last sentence of "Early professional career" is likely to be challenged and needs to be cited.
  • 3rd sentence of "Record-breaking year" (There has been debate...) is also likely to be challenged and needs to be cited.

Recommendations to make article better

[edit]
  • I'm left confused by the sentence, "Nelson was able to completely dominate the sport of golf while the field was decimated by the participation of most of the best golfers in World War II." Other than uncited sentence I mentioned above, it seems to contradict the "Record-breaking year" section; and it seems to me more of an unaccomplishment than an accomplishment. Additionally, I don't think this sentence is likely to be challenged, but it would be a good one to source because someone with a wild hair might do that.
  • The first paragraph of "Posthumous honors" needs sourced
    • Ok, i've cited the sentence. I'm not sure what else I could do to make that sentence better, maybe saying "believed by some", or "believed by most", because according to the reference I have added, it was believed by some or most people. By the way, thanks for reviewing the article so quickly, I was expecting a longer wait :D. Thanks, Grover 04:04, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • Looks good now, getting it listed GA now.

GA concern

[edit]

The picture of the book cannot be used under fair use as a means to display a portret of Byron Nelson. It can only be used if the book is being discussed in this article, and then only in the section where the book is discussed. As such, to retain the GA status, the picture has to go, or something has to be written about the book, and the picture then has to be moved. Errabee 16:44, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hemophilia

[edit]

This article states that his slow blood clotting was NOT due to hemophilia, and provides one citation. There are other interpretations that he suffered from the MILD form of Hemophilia A (the form of hemophilia that relates to a deficiency in clotting factor VIII) and that the MILD form of the genetic condition could not be reliably diagnosed until the 1970s with the advent of DNA analysis. Please help clarify this part of his profile. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.224.68.200 (talk) 16:00, 7 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
