Ambato, EcuadorAmbato — San Juan de Ambato is it's major use for the name Ambato, and solely stand as it's name in major references towards this city. Althought it's disambiguation has others, most except one don't exist. — Blupper92 (talk) 00:45, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Survey

[edit]
Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's naming conventions.
  • Support -- The only thing that is referred to by Ecuadoreans when they say "Ambato" is the city which is the canton seat. If they're referring to the canton, it's always given as "Canton de Ambato." Equally, just as nobody uses the full name of the city of Quito, for example, nobody calls this city "San Juan de Ambato" --The lifted lorax (talk) 17:43, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support -- I support this as well. Having lived in Ambato in for two years, I never once heard someone call the city by the name "San Juan de Ambato," only "Ambato." According to Wikipedia's naming conventions, I would argue that if Ecuadorians use the name "Ambato," there is surely much less chance that non-Ecuadorian English speakers will identify more readily with the name "San Juan de Ambato" as the article title. Discussion

[edit]
Any additional comments:

ReferencesI specifically edited the "Montalvo Park" section to quote the El Comercio, the main Quito paper which was the source for the most recent article on the $450,000 renovation. I also added a reference for the date of the announcement of the Festival of Fruits and Flowers which I found in a government tourism publication. I have a lot of reservations about translating the page from Spanish because of the lack of sources it cites. Newcastle24743 (talk) 15:44, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox Created an inbox based on Infobox Settlement template that I found for a similar article on Cuenca, Ecuador. I also contributed two more citations in an ongoing effort to clean up this particular page. The citations are from well-known geographical dictionaries. NeighborhoodsBeen doing some significant work translating information from the municipal website of Ambato (http://www.ambato.gov.ec/sitio2/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=49&Itemid=93) particularly about the neighborhoods and attractions located in Ambato. This is good, verifiable information, especially as Ambato has recently updated their website. Newcastle24743 (talk) 17:08, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
