Plagiarised?

[edit]

I found this exact text: "Since Hong Kong played a pivotal role in the formation of the AFC, it was awarded the right to host the first Asian Cup. As the hosts, Hong Kong qualified automatically to the finals. Seven of the twelve affiliated national association divided into three qualifying zones. Hong Kong opened the tournament with a game against Israel which they were very unlucky to lose, but Israel were generally disappointing as much was expected from them. Korea Republic were crowned champions when they won the crucial tie against Israel 2-1. Three second-half goals kept the 25,000 football fans in Hong Kong on their feet. South Korea struck first (Woo Sang Koon 53' and Soung Rak-Woon 65') before Israel who were the runners-up replied with a solitary goal scored by Nahum Stelmach in the 71st minute. Hong Kong and Vietnam took third and fourth place, respectively." at this website: http://www.teammelli.com/asiancup/1st_championship_hong_kong_1956.htm#Hong_Kong_1956_

2015 Asian Cup

[edit]

The FFA (Australia) has publically stated they are going to bid for the 2015 Asian Cup. Since there is now verifiable sources quoting this, would it not be too early to create the 2015 AFC Asian Cup article? Just asking because it annoys me when people create articles for events way in the future, but in this case I think it is now justified. -- Chuq (talk) 01:15, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

israel expelled?

[edit]

does anyone knows why it happened? shouldn't the reasons for it be in the text? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.186.92.190 (talk) 22:39, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2004 Asian Cup Champions

[edit]

2004 Asian Cup Champions is China!

Edit request from Jhnohkmla, 19 January 2011

[edit]

{{edit semi-protected}} At the final part of this document, it states:

  • Iran holds almost all major Asian Cup final competition records : most games played (54 followed by South Korea,50), most games won (31, followed by South Korea, 23), most goals scored (106, followed by South Korea, 79), best goal difference (+66, followed by Japan, +27). Iran shares records of most Asian Cup titles (3) with Saudi Arabia and Japan and most Asian Cup final competition participation (11) with South Korea and most semi final appearance (8) with Japan, while Saudi Arabia holds record of finals played (6 followed by South Korea 5 and Iran 3).

In this part of the document, it states that Iran shares most semi fianl apperance (8) with Japan. However, it is a wrong statement and it should be changed to Republic of Korea or South Korea.

Most successful national teams section

[edit]

My first impression is that it would make sense to sort teams with equal achievements, by the most recent achievement. Clearly Australia is "more successful" than Myanmar, and North Korea is "more successful" than Cambodia. But I may not be looking at this from a neutral point of view since I'm Australian. Other thoughts? -- Chuq (talk) 00:41, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I don't know how you came to the view that Australia is more succesful than Myanmar when that grid shows both have achieved the saem, but never mind, whatever floats the boot i guess. Otherwise, yes, the order should be done by most recent, this seems to happen everywhere else, so why not here is beyond me. Druryfire (talk) 11:55, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Most Top 4 recorded national teams section

[edit]

Who's remove this section? 'Most Top 4 recorded national teams' section shows a consistency of National teams. Don't remove it. --Mireflejo (talk) 17:29, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't remove it the first time, but i removed it the 2nd time because it's pointless, can you see a table just above that looks very similiar? Druryfire (talk) 17:32, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, this section is redundant. -- Chuq (talk) 03:07, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Israel removed without reason

[edit]

Someone removed Israel as the runners-up from 1956 and 1960, and as hosts and champions from 1964, in the Results section. There's a blank space now. Cofcevicz (talk) 12:37, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For all those who persist in removing this information from this article and the related 2023 AFC Asian Cup article, please refer to the published criteria by the AFC at the following link: https://assets.the-afc.com/downloads/miscellaneous-regulations/AFC-Competition-Operations-Manual-(Edition-2023).pdf. Granted, it is a primary source. But if we can't trust the AFC for the competition that they themselves run . . . . Matilda Maniac (talk) 03:38, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
