The Philadelphia Phoenix is a professional ultimate team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a member of the East Division of the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL). The Phoenix are currently owned and operated by Main Line Today's "Woman on The Move" Christina Lee Chung, MD, FAAD.[1] From 2020 to 2021 the team competed in the Atlantic Division. The Phoenix home field is located on the campus of Neumann University.

History[edit]

Founding[edit]

When the American Ultimate Disc League was established, the Philadelphia Spinners began as one of the eight founding teams, winning the first AUDL championship on August 11, 2012. However, two months later, team owner, coach, and general manager Jeff Snader announced that his intentions to withdraw from the AUDL and create a competing league, known as Major League Ultimate.[2] An agreement was reached between Snader and the AUDL, allowing him to maintain ownership of the Spinners' name and logo. The Philadelphia Phoenix were later announced as a replacement for the Spinners for the 2013 season, though the league's official records include the Spinners' 2012 season as part of the Phoenix's history.[3]

Stadium[edit]

In 2024, the Phoenix began playing their home games at Neumann University.[4] Previously, the Phoenix played their home games out of A.A. Garthwaite Stadium in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, and the South Philadelphia Super Site[5].
