Biography

[edit]

Juan was born in Copenhagen to Alexander Philomeno de la Cruz de Morety and Marie Grishauge Jepson. He attended Copenhagen College and then studied music at the Royal Danish Theatre.[2][3]

Originally a singer and stage actor in his native Copenhagen, de la Cruz moved to Hollywood around 1912.[4] He was reportedly of noble descent, and was referred to in books published at the time as Count de Morety.[1]
