New FSF Address

[edit source]

It seems that the Free Software Foundation changed their address from 59 Temple Place (address given in this license) to 51 Franklin St (address given at http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/fdl.html and other GNU web pages). So, I think someone should update the copyright to read as this. --Kernigh 15:03, 23 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Make includeable

[edit source]

Please add <noinclude> tags around all parts of this page which are metadata (e.g. tag at the top). This will allow the page to be included in wikibooks more easily. --Alfakim 14:03, 3 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Interpreting the GFDL

[edit source]

If one had questions regarding the interpretation of sections of the GFDL, where would one go for "official" answers? -- Jason C Daniels 21:37, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

The GNU project maintains the GFDL, so if you needed some "official help" about it, you could ask the GNU people about it on their website. In general, people around here have grown pretty knowledgable about it over time, so we can typically give you a good explanation if you need one. Also, because of the high-volume of images, the admins at Wikimedia commons have become experts on the subject in their own right, so you can consider asking questions there too. --Whiteknight (talk) (projects) 21:56, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Heading levels

[edit source]

The heading levels make in difficult to include this in printable versions, I think. Can we change it so that the sections are === rather than ==? That way each section of the GFDL won't be at the same level as a book chapter (the entire GFDL should be at the same level as a chapter, and GFDL sections should be the heading equivalent of a section within a chapter). —Chowbok 04:29, 17 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Use Level 1 headings in your printable versions, such as:
= GNU Free Documentation License =
{{:GFDL}}
Lots of other books already do this, so we shouldnt change the headings. --Whiteknight (talk) 04:31, 17 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, I did do that... but that puts <h1> tags in the body of the document, which strikes me as poor form. —Chowbok 04:40, 17 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Maybe we could have another protected GFDL page for print inclusions? Or can I just subst' it? —Chowbok 04:42, 17 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Funny, yesterday I copied this Page for de.wikibooks and thought about the same thing.
My work a round is {{{1|==}}}, which allow use to use h2-headings or simple bold with '''.
When I think about it, {{{1|<h2>}}} {{{2|</h2>}}}, is the most flexible solution.

As Whiteknight has written above, second level heading in this text are correct. Chapter titles in print versions should be level one. --Derbeth talk 20:17, 17 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I disagree. Anyway, Whiteknight seems amenable to MichaelFrey's solution, and I like it too. Hopefully we can have that implemented soon. —Chowbok 00:13, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
