Kanamori Sayaka (金森さやか) is one of the main protagonists of Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na!, together with her friend Asakusa Midori she joins with Tsubame Mizusaki with the goal of creating an anime.

Her role in the Motion Picture Club is producer.

Personality[]

Kanamori has been shown as having a rather deadpan and unamused personality. First seen taking her share of the change after buying Asakusa lunch, she is observed to have a love of money. Kanamori is very ambitious and opportunistic, using whatever is available to her for the purpose of being productive.

She gets easily irritated by Asakusa's insistence on things and lack of focus, and she isn't afraid to shout to get her way. Her calculative and manipulative approach to situations proves her to be quite intelligent as she is able to turn an argument against her opposition. She is also not easily swayed by empty words from her teachers or of the student council, and doesn't shy away from calling them out for their hypocrisy.

Kanamori thinks pragmatically, especially in gaining what she wants. This is shown when she threatens a teacher to allow them to create anime yet also acknowledges what she said was pure sophistry and the effect will wear off on him. She acts as the clubs producer and often acts as the group's defacto leader. Although she often has to reign in the other members of the group to focus on the task at hand, she is shown to be considerate of their feelings and values their skills and what they bring to the club. While she can sometimes butt heads or lose patience with the more free-spirited members of her club, especially in situations where the overall product would suffer from their perfectionism or lack of focus, she is shown to be willing to compromise and offer alternative solutions to her co-members, and is even willing to let things go for their sake.

Much of Kanamori's overall personality was shaped by her childhood experiences of helping her relatives run their store. Helping them taught her the value of money and hard work, but seeing the store close after it loses business (due to the construction of a new road diverting traffic from the area) taught her the importance of marketing and seizing opportunities when they present themselves and gaining the upper hand for the sake of survival. However, Kanamori's resourcefulness and natural business skills seem to have been present even from a young age, as shown by her suggestion to her relatives to open the store during a blizzard when she notices that all the other corner stores had closed.

In speech, Kanamori tends to refer to others with the honorific -shi (氏), an intensely formal honorific normally reserved for individuals the speaker is unfamiliar with. Given Kanamori's attitude, it seems she uses it sarcastically.

Official Bio[]

Asakusa’s classmate who is tall and long-legged. Though she has neither interest in nor knowledge of anime, she somehow took interest in Aasakusa and hangs out with her. Kanamori loves the activity which makes money and she tries to find the way even in small talk. After starting up Eizouken, she takes on the role of producer being the only realist in the team, and proves herself through negotiating with the school and student council. Asakusa and Mizusaki’s nature of being creators always troubles her though she respects their abilities.[3]

Appearance[]

She is the tallest amongst her friends and has long brownish-gray hair reaching over her shoulders. Kanamori wears a pair of upper rimmed black glasses, though she only seems to use them in class as they are otherwise resting on her head.

Kanamori wears the general school uniform which consists of a white school shirt, a blue blazer, and a navy blue skirt. Additionally, she wears a teal tie, black knee socks, and brown shoes.

On some occasions, however, Kanamori ties her hair back into a singular bun.

Story[]

Kanamori has brought Asakusa what she wanted and discusses going to the anime club presentation with her. She spots Mizusaki though Asakusa's binoculars and instructs her to go and befriend her on account of her richness.

In the anime presentation hall Kanamori is guided by Asakusa to the back where there are fewer people. She asks Asakusa if she can even see with taller people in front.

Following Tsubame they head to a laundromat and discuss drawings, Kanamori suggests Mizusaki create an anime with Asakusa. She convinces them through a motivational speech, in which she gets both girls to agree.

It is Kanamori who opts for a mixed suggestion from Mr. Yokota to form a motion picture club, motivated by the funding available.

Making her way to the place for club activities with Mr. Fujimoto, Kanamori views the interior of the warehouse and takes recordings on her phone as proof of their activities. This also applies to recording Asakusa as she falls from a ledge as whilst Kanamori was powerless to help her, she could record and sell the footage.

Kanamori understands Asakusa's emphasis on the importance of their meeting to discuss the future of the club, only to find her practicing spinning plates.

She tells Asakusa and Mizusaki that she will gather whatever equipment they can use and for them to go on and animate. Thinking to herself, Kanamori considers not having a computer at the clubroom to be really inefficient and whilst other stuff is not needed as much she feels she has to hurry and get one.

Relationships[]

Asakusa Midori[]

Asakusa asks Kanamori to help her with matters related to interacting with other people from buying her food to using her as a shield when making their way into the presentation hall.

In matters relating to the Film Research Club, Kanamori tends to be somewhat harsh on Asakusa as she tends to get easily lost in her imagination and loses focus on the topic at hand, but eventually learns to relent to allow Asakusa more freedom to come up with ideas. Kanamori also pushes Asakusa to be more confident when dealing with others and mature as a director. Kanamori describes Asakusa as someone who acts weird to hide her insecurities, but is otherwise very capable when she is focused. Asakusa doesn't complain when Kanamori gives her a hard time, suggesting that she respects Kanamori's more pragmatic outlook, but this doesn't stop Asakusa from being a bit flaky when she isn't focused. Additionally, Asakusa never hesitates to try to include Kanamori in her wild imaginings and in the more creative aspects of the Film Research Club, showing how she values Kanamori's input.

Mizusaki Tsubame[]

Their differing personalities and priorities sometimes leads them to butt heads, but they generally get along and work to find compromise for the sake of the project, and they respect the other's abilities and the work they do for the club.

Tsubame's interest in attentive character acting in her animation sometimes clashes with Sayaka's more pragmatic and marketing-orientated understanding of animation, usually insisting on more flashy appeal and means to cut down on time spent animating. Additionally, Tsubame tends to be uncomfortable when Sayaka wishes to use her fame as a model to promote the club's projects, but usually concedes, recognizing the importance of getting more eyes on their anime by any means. In turn, Kanamori aims towards compromising in these matters and tries to give Tsubame the freedom to animate as she wishes, and doesn't force her to act as the face of the club beyond what she deems as absolutely necessary.

Mr. Yokota[]

She is not shy about talking down to her teacher when Sayaka articulates that with the technical name being a research club they can produce works live action or otherwise, contrary to his wishes. Continuing, Kanamori states if he does restrict the actions of students to do as they wish without a valid reason then they will take the matter to the teaching committee.
