Gloria Martinez was the mother of David Martinez and a supporting character in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
Biography[]
Gloria Martinez and her son David lived in an apartment of Megabuilding H4 in Santo Domingo, Night City. She was an emergency medical technician (EMT) who scraped by to provide for her son, David Martinez, both by working long hours into the night and by selling high-priced and rare Cyberware she took off corpses to sell to edgerunners.[3] She gave birth to David in 2058 as she was reattaching the arm of an edgerunner in the back of an ambulance. She kept stitching after her water broke and told the man to switch seats once she was finished. She delivered the baby herself and the man ended up cutting the umbilical cord with the Mantis Blade in his saved arm.[4]
In 2076, Gloria took a military-grade Sandevistan from James Norris' body after he was subdued by MaxTac, to sell it to Maine. Before she could hand over the Sandevistan, however, she ended up getting called to pick David up from Arasaka Academy after he got in trouble. On their way home, the two got caught in a crossfire with a gang of Animals and another car and crashed in the process. When the Trauma Team arrived to help their platinum client, they ignored Martinez and her son, so the pair ended up receiving treatment from a low-end surgeon. The very next day, however, her condition worsened and she died, with the doctor giving her chronically overworked body as the reason.[3]
David, with few options to bury his mother, would have to budget-cremate her body; her ashes placed in a cheap, plastic urn. David would keep the urn with him for the rest of his life. He would also keep his mother's belongings, particularly her EMT jacket which he would find the Sandevistan she was going to sell to Maine.[3]
David kept his mother's ashes until his death. Afterwards her ashes were interred in Night City's Columbarium. Lucy Kushinada wrote "You were right. David reached the top of Arasaka Tower." on her niche.
