Description

The Twitter logo changed to X. The Twitter icon in the social widget block and embed block still has the bird logo in it.

Thanks for the ticket,

I guess we could probably wait a few months before updating the icon since the change is very recent and as this logo change was made a bit in a rush. It's difficult to be sure of anything, if it's going to change back, change to another Y/Z logo or even if this will remain as the microblogging social network we use to know as Twitter 😅

Also, changes in social widget block and embed block should probably happen in Gutenberg, not in Core. Should be reported upstream on https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/.

however, some bundled themes have a Twitter logo for their social menu features, and this could be handled in this ticket. Thus I'm moving this ticket to the Bundled Themes component.

Ps: Removing version 6.3 tag as the issue was not introduced by WordPress 6.3 but by a spoiled brat.

Thanks for the detailed comment.

We already started seeing that the users want X icon instead of a bird on their site. May be a plugin might help in this case until we have in the core. (opportunity for plugin authors)

@masteradhoc I don't think we should close this ticket, since the issue should still be addressed on bundled themes.

Also invalid would not be the good resolution, we use reported-upstream for ticket that are addressed on an upstream repository.

It's understandable that considering waiting a few months before updating the icon, especially given the recent and somewhat rushed logo change.

  • Keywords reporter-feedback added

@kafleg unless I am mistaken what needs to happen with this is:

  • Identify any themes which need to have the logo changed?
  • Create patch for those.

Is that correct?

@karmatosed

while creating this ticket, there was no X social icon added and I created this. But, now X is available in core. So, I think the primary reason of this ticket is done.

About themes which needs to have logo changed, we need to check and see which theme needs updated.

  • Keywords close added; needs-patch removed

Thank you for the update @kafleg. I think in this case my recommendation would be to audit the themes then and create a new ticket for that. As a result I am going to recommend this is closed.
