#51496 assigned enhancement

Scroll to the first plugin which is going to be updated after clicking on 'Apply' while Bulk actions 'Update' is selected to show that process is in a progress.

Description

If you are clicking on 'Apply' while Bulk actions 'Update' it looks like nothing is happening and it's why you want to click several times in a row.

This functionality can be combined with an improvement according to #40966 ticket. If this multiple update issue is hard to fix, possibly to add a scroll to the first plugin which is going to be updated can be easier.

Hi there, thanks for the ticket!

I believe this was somewhat improved in [50027] / #51476, the Updates icon in the admin bar should now rotate when performing inline updates on the Plugins screen.

Just thinking, could scrolling to the first updating plugin have accessibility concerns if it's unexpected?

Would a rotating icon (the one that shows progress in other areas of core) next to the Apply button be helpful here?

@SergeyBiryukov, thank you for the follow-up on this ticket.

I didn't notice this rotating icon and only after your comment I searched the interface for something moving. From my point of view, it still looking like nothing is happening after the Apply button is pushed, and you need to scroll manually down to see if something is happening or not.

So, yes, I believe that rotating icon next to the Apply button will be a solution if there are concerns about accessibility issues with scrolling the page, but perhaps it does not need to rotate in two places at the same time, even if most users will not notice the second.

Thanks for jumping on this ticket!

Indeed, I think scrolling down to the first updating plugin would be quite unexpected and probably be difficult to explain to screen reader users (we can try using wp.a11y.speak though).

Using a rotating icon would probably be an easier way to let some people (sighted users only?) know that an action is performing.
