Chainsaw Man (チェンソーマン Chensōman?) is the TV anime adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto's Chainsaw Man manga. It is produced and animated by studio MAPPA and premiered on October 11, 2022.

Plot[]

When his father died, Denji was stuck with a huge debt and no way to pay it back. Thanks to a Devil dog he saved named Pochita, he's able to survive through odd jobs and killing Devils for the Yakuza. Pochita's chainsaw powers come in handy against these powerful demons. When the Yakuza betrays him and he's killed by the Zombie Devil, Pochita sacrifices himself to save his former master. Now Denji has been reborn as some kind of weird Devil-Human hybrid. He is now a Chainsaw Man!

After his transformation, he's quickly recruited by Makima to join the Public Safety Devil Hunters under threat of extermination now that he's technically a Devil. Now that he's living comfortably for the first time in his life, Denji struggles to determine his dreams and form meaningful relationships while killing Devils and working alongside other eccentric Devil Hunters.

Production[]

On December 14, 2020, the Chainsaw Man anime was announced after the conclusion of the Public Safety Saga in the manga. Around that time, the anime had a stage presentation during Jump Festa 2021 on December 19, 2020. It was also confirmed that studio MAPPA will be producing the TV anime adaptation.[1]

The first anime trailer was shown on June 27, 2021 during MAPPA's 10th Anniversary event, with the reveal of the anime's production staff and several scenes that adapted the manga's first few chapters.[2] On December 19, 2021, the anime adaptation had another stage presentation during Jump Festa 2022, which revealed the anime's release date via the second trailer: October 2022.[3]

On August 6, 2022, the third trailer revealed various scenes of the core cast from the final production, as well as when the series will be broadcasted in the coming months.[4] A month later, the fourth trailer featured the anime's opening theme, "Kick Back" by Kenshi Yonezu and the premiere date of the first episode.[5]

The series was broadcasted on TV Tokyo and other stations from October 11 to December 27, 2022. Following the conclusion of the anime's first season, an anime sequel movie was announced during Jump Festa 2024, titled Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc.[6]
