What are you doing to eliminate that bias in your life and workplace? Image Description: patterned background with a text box that reads “unconscious bias against Autistic people is real. That bias is reflected in society’s: standards for ‘politeness’, views of ‘professionalism’, expectations of ‘common sense’. Masking isn’t the answer. Addressing the bias is.” #ActuallyAutistic #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #dei #NeurodiversityAtWork

Virtually every Neurodivergent person has a story about how an untrained manager has caused them harm, however unintentionally. Training is vital. Image Description: blue and yellow floral background with a text box that reads “Manager Training must be part of all Reasonable Accommodations conversations. Otherwise Managers frequently: expect endless gratitude & view reports as ‘demanding’, ‘forget’ accommodations or do the bare minimum, factor accommodations into performance reviews” #adhd #ActuallyAutistic #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #dei #NeurodiversityAtWork

Most Reasonable Accommodations processes have been designed for legal compliance. The purpose of that law is to remove barriers faced by disabled individuals, giving them equal opportunity to others. But the process put in place to comply with the law rarely consider the purpose of the law. These processes aren’t designed to be accessible to disabled individuals. They aren’t focused on quickly identifying and rolling out actually effective accommodations. Designing for legal compliance instead of accessibility will mean that many Neurodivergent or otherwise disabled people are unable to put themselves through your process to get the help that they need. And that is far from inclusive. Image description: patterned background with a text box that reads: Reasonable Accommodations processes need to focus on making changes that are actually effective in removing the barriers faced by the specific individual. They are not a risk mitigation process. Or a tick-box exercise. #ActuallyAutistic #neurodiversity #adhd #ReasonableAccommodations #NeurodiversityAtWork #NeuroInclusion

Many, many things are out of your control when you are neurodivergent. Learning how to support yourself through those situations is the key to feeling empowered in your neurodivergent identity. Image description: patterned background with a text box that reads “Neurodiversity Affirming Coaching recognises that when you live in a society that’s not designed for your brain, it’s not always possible to avoid overwhelm. So instead we ask: what can you do now as your regulated self, to support yourself when you do become overwhelmed?” #dei #NewDealForNeurodiversity #NeurodiversityAtWork #adhd #ActuallyAutistic #neurodiversity

It's not easy work to overcome your ableism and become a true ally. You're going to be uncomfortable. It's worth it. Image description: patterned background with a text box that reads: Being an ally to the Neurodivergent community means: learning from those who have traditionally been silenced, questioning your own expectations as well as social norms, actively supporting Neurodivergent people even when it could harm your own reputation to interests #ActuallyAutistic #neurodiversity #adhd #ReasonableAccommodations #NeurodiversityAtWork #NeuroInclusion

If you’re not factoring neurodiversity into your feedback, chances are it’s not accurate or unbiased feedback. This is especially the case for feedback related to someone’s behaviour or personality. As awareness of neurodiversity increases, this kind of feedback reflects more negatively on you that on the person you’re commenting on. Progress starts with taking the step to learn more about neurodiversity Image description: patterned background with a text box that reads “Unbiased feedback makes room for neurodivergence” #dei #NewDealForNeurodiversity #NeurodiversityAtWork #adhd #ActuallyAutistic #neurodiversity

If you haven’t heard of the “Double Empathy Problem”, this is your sign to look into it. Communication is a two-way street. Image Description: print background with a text box that reads: If you’re giving an Autistic person the feedback that they need to work on their communication with the rest of the team...We hope you’re giving the rest of the team the feedback that they need to work on how they communicate with their Autistic colleagues. #ActuallyAutistic #neurodiversity #adhd #dei #NewDealForNeurodiversity #NeurodiversityAtWork

Managers have been shown to have as much impact on an employee’s mental health as a spouse. For Neurodivergent people, this impact is amplified - it can be make or break for our ability to remain in the workforce, or thrive in your environment. Check out our manager training if you’re ready to get started on your neuro-inclusion journey! Image Description: patterned background with a text box that reads: Managers: You are the key to Neurodivergent people thriving in the workplace. 53% of Autistic people feel unable to ask for accommodations at work. And yet only 2% of employers actively reach out to ask what accommodations an Autistic person needs. You don't have to have all of the answers. But it is time for you to get pro-active. #ActuallyAutistic #adhd #neurodiversity #dei #NeurodiversityAtWork #NewDealForNeurodiversity
