Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:88.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/88.0
Steps to reproduce:
Ctrl+p
, Save to PDF
, then click on Save
, then a dialog opens where the directory where to save the file is always ${HOME}
, then you have to painstakingly click/select the desired directory, then click Save
.
Expected results:
User is expecting Firefox to remember preferred directory for Print to PDF
. Also in about:config
, with the prefix print.printer_Mozilla_Save_to_PDF
, there is nothing related to user's preferred directory for it.
Considering this feature is working way better than it used to, specifically the user is not supposed to painstakingly provide a name for the file, it would be so nice if it were working "all the way". (Do you remember the time when the filename was always ${HOME}/mozilla.pdf
, it was outright unwieldy.)
If Firefox were remembering the preferred directory, the whole operation of saving a web page to PDF, could be done through a sequence of three easy keyboard strokes, namely Ctrl-p
Ret
Ret
.
Really the above works perfectly, but doing that always gets your file saved in ${HOME}
, at least if you close your browser between.
