I'm trying to get a local server up and running. I'm using the .exe. When I join my server (via "localhost" or the full ip:port format) there is no terrain, and I fall forever in a blue abyss. I can see cows and stuff falling also, as if they were generated but not the terrain. At first I thought that I just needed to wait for the terrain to generate, but my game is not laggy like it normally is when terrain is generating. After a while, I get disconnected with an "internal exception: <error here>". I checked the server console to find the line "Server cannot keep up, did server time change, or is server overloaded?" What am I doing to crash my server? Why is there no terrain generation? What can I do to fix this?
Getting the exact same problem, but I haven't seen it spawn blocks.
Using my external URL and others can connect, but they fall into the blue abyss as well. Time out happens after a long moment. Been searching for answers for days now. Would like even the barest hint of advice or what might be causing it.
I'm on Windows 7, but have yet to ever run into problems besides this one.
I tried running the server on another computer and then connecting to it from this one, and it works. Geometry is generated, and the server is not overloaded. I guess we just won't be able to host and play from the same computer.
Having the same problem. After falling for a while I get a few random bits of terrain to generate, I can even punch some sand and after about 20s the block appears in my inventory. Back when I first started playing Minecraft (September time) I was able to host a server on my computer and have myself and 3 other friends playing on it (this was how I convinced them to purchase it).
I really just want to get it set up so I can copy my single player worlds and have friends connect to them so I can show them off.

I can confirm this. Did the same thing and it works flawlessly now.
OK, that is great you guys were able to get it working by running the server on a different computer, but what about those of us who only have one computer?
I just done know where to begin trying to fix this. I have already tried changing process affinity to put the server and client on different cores. I dont know what else to try.
