"Long ago, the Nether was connected to the surface world by vast channels reaching through the bedrock, regularly circulating the air and replenishing the materials needed for mineral growth. One day, though, a mysterious substance fell through one of these deep sub-terranian vents and dropped into the ocean. Suddenly, a huge chain reaction occured in the vast waters, changing and heating the water with the stone into a sea of fire. The corruption of this odd virus continued to the stone, making it burn forever more. The virus continued to spread through the minerals: iron changed to neridium, gold morphed to linium, and the sand and dirt changed so no normal plant life would live on it again. As cracks appeared in the ceiling of this new world of fire, the surface vents started to spew molten lava, and the redstone corrupted and formed into great stalectites of glowing stone.
Enter, adventurer from another world, for this valley of fire and death has changed little since; even though this land is now habitable, it will still be ... a living Hell."
Just an alternate beginning. Feel free to edit it, or even dispatch of it completely.
This is pretty epic! I would use it, but I'm not sure i like the idea that the Nether was once exactly like the surface world, but was changed because of a virus. I do like the way you use lots of variation and descriptors. maybe you could type one up of another thing?
Seems like i started people making backstories! I have one for the fire slime
"Slime's aren't really alive. They are just made of a liquid that is drawn by an uknown force to brainwaves. They are formed when netherack finally runs out of fuel. It burn's for decades, sometimes even more, but once its worn out it forms into a fire slime. It is fueled by the intense heat of the nether. The more it is exposed to this intense heat, the larger it becomes. When a fire slime is slain, if it's large enough, it will split into multiple smaller fire slimes. This is possible because it does not have a brain."
And tribals aren't drawn to by fire slimes because they lack strong brain waves.
And a new mod idea: Hell Hornet.
Haven't made a backstory yet i'll work on that later.
And ladders please!
Not bad, but I may just write one myself. I was thinking that Fire Slimes could be formed a different way: by the collection of blood from the super heated netherrack, not from the actual netherrack itself. Does that sound okay?

Sure, I can. You can even give me a list, and I will come up with some.
Just something like the black zombies? Maybe they could be from all of the Surface zombies that have been killed, and have come for revenge? Feel free to use your own ideas, that's just an idea. I'm not exactly sure what else, but anything that you could write a story chapter about.
"A century ago, when the surface world recieved its first few reports of the dead waking up from their eternal sleep, a vent opened up into a deep subterranian mine, mixing for the first time the deep searing mass of lava with the rivers above. Then, on one fateful day, a creeper was chasing one of the early adventurers of the lands into this cavern and detonated, sending his body and the sparse tools with him into a wall of a deep purple stone. While going through one of the natural vents of this volcanic glass, his flint struck the stone and set it ablaze, and in the ensueing explosion and deep purple fire, was sent to a world where no human has set foot before...
But today was not to be the day that a man would take those steps, for the explosive force of the creeper changed this adventurer, and the ensueing corruption rented through his body, denying him of his final, restful sleep. As the darkness of the Nether engulfed him, his eyes opened with a deep crimson gleem, and the dreadful Zombie of Darkness started to walk the lands of this world of fire.
They say that if you ever meet one of these beasts in the depths of Hell, these monsters that are now readily formed by the culmination of the creeper's explosion and the deep purple glass, you can still see the rags that cling to the body ... of the ones who did not get away."

Wow, once again, epic as hell (no pun intended). I'll use this one with a little bit of editing. Thanks!
That Dark Zombie background was too epic to mess with. I couldn't do anything to it! I started reading it again to find anything that needed changing, and become overly entangled in said background and didn't edit it. Posted as it. Also, do you want credit?
The game crases when i am in the nether, it may be because i am loading a new chunk, that happens with more trees because it loads the new trees. It may be because of new blocks. Plz help
After a long and tireing fight, the Chief of the Tribals allowed himself to relax his grip on his sword of dark purple. Covered in the foul blood of the zombie pigman that the chief had just slain, the sword almost seemed like it vibrated along with its master over their latest victory. And why shouldn't they, since it was for the cause of the war.
The chief went over to the river of lava that was flowing through their village, and began to rinse and clean his sword, for even the hilt was red. The War of the Damned... As he turned to head back to the main area of their village, he flicked a final drop of this liquid that gives life off of the hilt and into the river. As if his condecending attitude has awoken a god of fire, great gouts of fire erupted 20 feet high from the river, and spawn a gellatenous entity that has never been seen before. Unable to move from sheer terror, he watched as this new force ebbed closer and closer. When he finally raised his sword to strike, it was too late.
When the village came looking for him, wanting to hear his tales from the latest battle, they only saw a viscous residue sticking to the stone where his sword still layed. From then on, the tribals attacked these blood-red fire slimes on sight, as if killing them would rid the thought that even more bloodshed could bring an army of them knocking on their doors."
No, I don't really need credit. I am happy that I can help, since these are fun to write. Hope you don't mind that I gave my own thoughts to the birth of the red slime.

This one seems good. I like that way also, more than mine actually. =D
Since no solution was given to my problem, I'll say it again.
Whenever I use the Nether versions of a crafting bench, furnace, or chest, Minecraft crashes. I have TMI installed, and now I have DwarvenCraft, but my problem started before I had DwarvenCraft. This is getting really annoying, because it means that I actually can't survive solely off of the stuff in the Nether.

Sorry. I'll try it with TMI, as I continually have forgotten, as I don't use TMI. Testing right now.

Have you tried reinstalling nethercraft with a different archiver? Some archivers, like jzip, don't work correctly for some reason. Try 7-zip or winrar. Also make sure everything is updated.
I know they are completely compatible since i have nethercraft and tmi.
I came up with an idea for both green Glowshroom's and Foulite's story!
Souls aren't the only thing that end up trapped in the Nether. Sometimes people above have intentions and ideas so horrid and vile that it simply can not be held within the limits of a human mind. What escapes is drawn to the hellishness of the Nether, and there combined with whatever strange power that makes other things come there, it forms into a horrid smelling but quite flammable. (After all, don't feelings like that usually lead to a fiery anger?) powder. Due to its being drawn to the very substance of the Nether its self, the foulness becomes either embedded in the rock, or in more rare cases, into the purple Glowshrooms already living there, which hence turns the Glowshrooms green.
I don't ask for credit if you use this, but it would be appreciated.

It must be some other problem. I would suggest trying what chalenged has suggested, or just reinstalling. If you do reinstall, then place NetherCraft in first, although I doubt there is an order. Hope it works for you!
EDIT: If you still get a crash, download and launch minecraft by double-clicking this file. Reproduce the crash, then follow the instructions to copy and paste it here.
Would this be possible to play on SMP or with friends? If so could you let me know how? :smile.gif:
Not until Notch fixes the Nether in SMP first. I've not confirmed this to be true, but there is no SMP support for this mod as of now, but is planned in the future.
