Bethesda has confirmed a Special Edition of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will ship later this year. Skyrim Special Edition will release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on October 28, 2016. This new edition includes added features such as:

  • Remastered art and effects
  • Volumetric god rays
  • Dynamic depth of field
  • Screen space reflections
  • Mods for consoles

Many of these additions will provide a new experience for console users, but the PC players have not been left behind. The updated graphics will provide a similar experience to a fully modded version of the game today, but the upgrade will provide a more optimized experience. Bethesda is aware of the similarities between the current mod heavy PC Skyrim and the newly remastered version, and are providing a free copy of the new Special Edition to owners of the original game on PC. The free copy applies to owners of the original game and all 3 DLCs, as well as owners of the Legendary Edition on PC.
