As of now, whether you lie to Oberlin or tell him the truth in Fallout 76 doesn’t matter. The quest will still end the same way, and you’ll unlock the same rewards, including the Shattered Ground legendary weapon. It will be interesting to see if your choice will affect Vault 63 in future updates or if it was all just an illusion of choice. In addition, you won’t be getting any new content/rewards based on what you told him.

Here are the three Legendary mods of the Shattered Ground weapon:

  • One Star: Junkie’s Legendary Mod
  • Two Star: Explosive
  • Three Star: Lightweight

When you confront Shulz, you’ll be given the option to blackmail him for additional rewards by telling him you’ll keep quiet but for a price. He will immediately give you 50 Caps to keep you quiet. However, you can still tell Oberlin the truth even if you go this route. So regardless of what choice you make, be sure to pick this option to earn additional Caps. You do not need any specific S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats at a certain level to perform the lie.
