Pals can do everything: building, planting, mining — you name it. They even help you explore the Palpagos Islands faster than you could on foot. Whether you’re farming materials or catching more creatures, you’ll want to mount up as soon as possible. I’ll tell you how to ride Pals in Palworld.
How to Unlock Mounts in Palworld
Palworld mounts become available as soon as you reach Level 6. At that point, you unlock the Rushoar Saddle and the Pal Gear Workbench in your Technology tab. You’ll need both to get your first mount. As you level up, you’ll get the Direhowl’s Saddled Harness, Eikthyrdeer Saddle, and more. Each equipment type requires different materials to craft them.
Can All Pals be Mounts? How Pals Become Rideable Mounts
Palworld has flying and ground mounts, which makes travel much easier. However, not all Pals can be ridden. To serve as a mount, your Pal must have the appropriate Partner Skill. For instance, Dinossom has the Fragrant Dragon skill. This allows it to be ridden and enhances its grass attacks while mounted.
How to Craft Pal Gear in Palworld
You can begin making Pal Gear once you build a Pal Gear Workbench. To craft it, you need the following materials: x10 Paldium Fragments, x30 Wood, and x2 Cloth.
If you haven’t already, unlock Cloth in your Technology tab in the third row. Craft it at a Primitive Workbench. You get one Cloth for every two Wool.
Now that you have the Pal Gear Workbench, it’s time to choose which equipment to make. For the purposes of this guide, I wanted to make an Eikthyrdeer Saddle, which requires:
- x5 Leather
- x20 Fiber
- x10 Ingots
- x3 Horns
- x15 Paldium Fragments
Once you’ve caught the Pal you want to ride with a Pal Sphere and unlock their Saddle, interact with the Workbench, select the recipe, and craft it. Any Handiwork Pals at your base will come over to speed up the process. Similar to Schematics, you don’t have to do anything special to use the Saddle. Once it’s crafted, you’re good to start riding immediately.
How to Ride a Pal in Palworld
To mount your Pal, summon it from the Pal Sphere by pressing “E” on mouse and keyboard or “LB” for controller. Then, hold down the Partner Skill button, which is “F” for the keyboard or “X” for the controller.
Doing this, my Eikthyrdeer ran over to me, and my character mounted it easily. The nice thing is that you have increased movement speed and access to your Pal’s Active Skills when riding a Pal. For me, this meant I could use the Antler Uppercut and Power Shot manually, making combat a breeze.
Do You Take Fall Damage While Mounted in Palworld?
Out of curiosity, I tested the difference between fall damage while mounted and not. And the results were surprising. My Eikthyrdeer and I found a high bridge near the Rayne Syndicate Tower to jump off. Of course, I took a significant amount of damage when I jumped alone, depleting my health to a third of what it was. However, I took none when mounted.
Whether Pocketpair intended this or not, you don’t take fall damage while mounted in Palworld.
Best Early Palworld Ground Mounts to Ride
Palworld has a ton of Pals for all your riding needs. Here are the ground mounts that you can unlock early on:
- Rushoar Saddle: Technology Level 6
- Melpaca Saddle: Technology Level 7
- Direhowl Saddled Harness: Technology Level 9
- Grintale Saddle: Technology Level 13
- Dinossom Saddle: Technology Level 19
If you haven’t captured any of these yet, I’d focus on getting a Rushoar. They’re often found near the Small Settlement and Rayne Syndicate Tower. Their low level makes them easy to catch, and I’ve found sneaking up on them while they’re sleeping at night gives you an advantage.
