One of the new locations in Skyline Valley is the Shining Creek Cavern. You’ll find a locked gate that requires the Cave Gate to unlock. You can get the Cave Gate key in Fallout 76 from the Greenhouse in Vault 63. However, to reach this point, you must start the Powerhouse of the Cell quest and progress until you gain access to the greenhouse. You can obtain this quest from James Oberlin in Vault 63. However, to reach this quest, you must first complete the following quests in the Skyline Valley region of Appalachia:

  • An Unlikely Invitation
  • The Calm Before
  • Housekeeping for Hire

Once you start the Powerhouse of the Cell quest, Oberlin will task you with saving Hilda from her lab in Vault 63’s Organic Sector. You will need to travel to the Shining Creek Cavern to get there. If you tried to access this location before, you know it is locked, just like the Cave Gate. However, you can now unlock it and enter.

Once you speak with Hilda, she will give you a series of tasks that will eventually lead you to the ‘Search for “Henry” in the Greenhouse’ task. You will locate the Cave Gate key here, as shown in the picture above. It is sitting on top of the shelves to the right of Henry the corpse plant.

Unfortunately, the Cave Gate Key doesn’t unlock any unique loot, and you will need to access this area to progress further in the Powerhouse of the Cell quest. Still, progressing the main story to gain access to other areas of Vault 63 is well worth your time. In addition, even after finishing this quest, you can access this area and find enemies like Wendigos, Deathclaws, and Crickets here for future farming.

Now that you know how to get the Cave Gate key in Fallout 76, you can access the locked area. Check out our Fallout 76 guide hub for more guides like How to Solve the Pioneer Treasure Hunt, which is probably how you stumbled across the locked door in the first place (that’s how I found it).
