How to Get Ride the Lightning Guitars in Fortnite (& Use Them)

Ride the Lightning and strike down on your enemies!

We will be jamming out a lot in Fortnite for the next few weeks, not just at the Jam Statues but anywhere around the map, thanks to the Ride the Lightning guitars. These Mythic guitars will not only allow us to travel with the lightning but also strike down on our enemies. Here’s where to get them!

Where to Find Ride the Lightning Items in Fortnite

The Mythic guitars look exactly like epic electric guitars, but they don’t work like one. Instead, they create rifts of lightning with their rockin’ roll powers, allowing you and your squad to fly into the sky and ground pound on top of your enemies.

By chance, you can find these Ride the Lightning items as ground loot or in chests. However, there are also some set locations where you’ll find them more often.

All Ride the Lightning Guitar Locations

  • Lavish Lair
  • Reckless Railways
  • Grand Glacier
  • Restored Reels
  • Nitrodrome
  • Mount Olympus
  • Brutal Beachhead
  • Cliffside Lodge – North of Redline Rig

When you get to those locations, you can find the guitars on a stand waiting to be picked up. All you need to do is hold the interaction button (X on Xbox, Square on PlayStation, or E on PC) like you would a chest, drop them from the stand, and pick them up.

How to Use the Ride the Lightning Item

Once you get the guitar, it’ll take up a slot in your inventory like any other item. Your character will appear like they’re holding the guitar in their hands, and when you press RT/R2 or M1, you will activate the lightning rift, bolting up into the air.

The rift below you will stay open for a few seconds, allowing any of your teammates to hop in as well. Once you’re in the air, you’ll get three charges to use to bolt in any direction. On the last bolt, you can target a radius below you (just like the Wings of Icarus) and strike down at that location.

It’s hard to aim your strike, but if you’re trying to hit an opponent, you’ll want to line up the highlighted circle on the ground over the top of them. Since the circle usually ends up directly below you, try flying over the opponent to line it up more easily.

It will automatically fly downwards once you reach the last bolt charge, so make sure you’re lined up where you want before it gets to that point. You’ll need to act quickly if you’re hoping to drop on top of someone.

Once you use the Ride the Lightning item, you must wait for the cooldown before using it again. The cooldown lasts for about 25 seconds, which is why you’ll want another weapon to use in the meantime. However, if you can land your strikes on your enemies, you’ll do major damage to them, wiping out all their shields in seconds.
