Wizards are the most versatile caster class in the game sporting plenty of spell options for damage, crowd control, and utility. Likewise, there are some excellent gear options that provide additional arcane flexibility which Wizards love. Here’s my best Wizard gear in Baldur’s Gate 3.

10. Bracers of Defense
Bracers of Defense is of the best early-game defensive items for classes that rely on clothing and Mage Armor like Wizards. Wearing these bracers gives you +2 AC while you’re unarmored or not holding a shield, which is a hefty boost. Find them in a chest in the Necromancer’s Cellar beneath one of the houses in the Blighted Village.
9. Cloak of the Weave
A quick spell save DC and attack roll boost you can get is from the Cloak of the Wave. In addition, you get the Absorb Elements spell as a Reaction once per Short Rest to defend against elemental attacks. Buy it from Helsik at the Devil’s Fee in the Lower City.
8. Gemini Gloves or Quickspell Gloves
There are two neat cantrip-boosting gloves in Act 3 that I highly recommend. Gemini Gloves from Helsik at the Devil’s Fee allow you to target two enemies with cantrips. Quickspell Gloves you can buy at the Sorcerous Sundries allow you to cast cantrips as a Bonus Action. Both effects work once per Short Rest.
7. Hood of the Weave
As a Wizard, I want to increase my spell save DC and spell attack rolls as much as possible, especially on higher difficulties like Tactician, where enemies have higher stats. Hood of the Weave is just another spell min-maxing item that boosts our offensive spells by +2. Simple and effective. Buy it from the Mystic Carrion in Philgrave’s Mansion in Baldur’s Gate.
6. Amulet of the Devout
Two tips here. Even though this gear piece is meant for Clerics, any spellcaster benefits from the hefty +2 spell save DC. More importantly, if you like using high-damage Lightning spells, such as Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning later, then I recommend you grab two levels into Tempest Domain. Their Channel Divinity: Destructive Wrath feature will maximize damage on Lightning Spells and the Amulet of the Devout will give you an extra charge of this ability. 5. Helldusk Gloves
Speaking of the House of Hope, the Helldusk Gloves are an excellent alternative to the cantrip-boosting gloves. I wear them to get a +1 bonus to spell attack rolls and save DC. Furthermore, you can cast an empowered version of Scorching Ray once per Short Rest, called Rays of Fire. You can loot them from Haarlep in the House of Hope.
4. Spellcrux Amulet
This is a universal Wizard gear piece. The amulet restores a spell slot of any level. Unlike the Pearl of Power, you can effectively do it in combat since it’s a Bonus Action. That said, it’s a once per Long Rest use, so the Amulet of Greater Health is also a great option for boosting HP and Concentration on casters that I recommend wearing once you use the Spellcrux restoration effect. You can loot the Spellcrux Amulet from the Warden below Moonrise and the Amulet Greater Health from the House of Hope on a pedestal in the Archives.
3. Robe of the Weave
The Robe of the Weave is a defensive powerhouse piece of Wizard gear that heals you whenever you succeed on a saving throw against spells and gives you +2 AC. You’ll also get a +1 bonus to spell save DC and spell attack rolls. You can get them inside a Globe of Invulnerability on the lower level of Ramazith’s Tower. I recommend you bring a See Invisibility scroll or spell to see the button that teleports you to the lower level.
2. Moon Devotion Robe
Where Robe of the Weave heals you, the Moon Devotion Robe damages enemies when you succeed on their imposed saving throws. You must have Mage Armor active to do it. Luckily, this Wizard gear grants you a free casting of the spell. I prefer this armor slightly over the Robe of the Wave since I get Advantage on Concentration checks from it to keep my crucial spells up. That said, it’s awkward to get on a good-nature playthrough since you’ll have to loot it from Isobel at Last Light or later at Ramazith’s Tower.
1. Staff of Spellpower and Markoheshkir
The magnum opus of my Wizard build — and any caster build for that matter — are these two staves. I highly recommend you get the Dual Wielder feat so that you can equip both of them at the same time.
Why? Both staves grant you the ability to cast a spell of any level for free. That’s two Chain Lightning casts or Disintegrates for free per Long Rest. The Markoheshkir can even boost your elemental spells and grant you some additional free ones as well. At least one of these is a must-have for any great Wizard build and you can find both with our Staff of Spellpower and Markoheshkir location guides.
Honorable Mention: Killer’s Sweetheart
This is an interesting combo that some players don’t know about and one I use for burst damage. The Killer’s Sweetheart lets you score an automatic Critical Hit on your next attack roll after you kill a creature once per Long Rest. This works with spell attack rolls.
I usually start my round with a powerful AOE spell and perhaps a bonus action Cantrip from Quickspell gloves to kill a low-health enemy. Then on the next round, I upcast Chromatic Orb to max level or use another attack roll spell or cantrip to land a massive Critical Hit as all spell damage dice double. You can find the Killer’s Sweetheart ring by finishing the Self-Same Trial in the Gauntlet of Shar and try the combo for yourself.
