Indie games have kicked things up a notch and are releasing a plethora of interesting titles this month. From cozy games to soulslike ones, a variety of titles can be found for every gamer. Not all games can be bangers, though. These are the best indie games releasing in April 2024.

The following games are a mix of different genres, but one thing is clear: RPGs and Soulslike games are making a name in the indie scene. The list is ordered by release date, so don’t think Stellar Blade isn’t as highly rated as Sons of Valhalla.

Sons of Valhalla
Release Date: April 5

Sons of Valhalla is a side scrolling, 2D RPG, and rougelite game that combines storytelling, base building, and and tactical combat. Set around the time of the Vikings, you play as Thorald, a man on a journey to save his love. Sailing to England, recruit allies and build up your forces as you lay siege to your enemies. We’re so pumped about its release that we listed it as one of our top 10 can’t miss roguelites.
Spirit City: Lofi Sessions
Release Date: April 8
Platforms: PC
Spirit City Lofi Sessions combines calming music with gamified task tracking. Perfect for those with focus issues that like to drown out the world with Lofi beats, the title allows you to customize your character, pet, and chill space. I can’t wait for this to come out, as I’ve been dying to find a task management app that I’d actually use to help my ADHD that comes with background music.
Botany Manor
Release Date: April 9
Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox Game Pass, Nintendo Switch
While Botany Manor may sound like a farm sim title, it’s actually a puzzle game. You play as a botanist, Arabella Greene, who’s researching unusual flora species for her latest book. You do get to grow rare plants, but it’s through completing puzzles and exploring your Victorian-era manor.
Children of the Sun
Release Date: April 9
Platforms: PC
If you’re looking for a different type of shooter game, Children of the Sun is for you. Play as a sniper seeking revenge and possibly go a bit insane in the process. The unique part of this title is you don’t really play as the sniper but as her bullet. You can fulfill your Wanted dreams and curve the bullet to get a headshot.
Harold Halibut
Release Date: April 16
Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass
For those looking for something a little slower-paced and more narrative-focused, you’ll want to check out Harold Halibut. Reminiscent of Claymation, you explore the only world you know, that of a crashed ark spaceship. Where did it crash? To the bottom of a large body of water, keeping all the inhabitants prisoner.
No Rest for the Wicked
Release Date: April 18
Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S
This isometric RPG takes cues from Diablo and Dark Souls alike. The world is gritty as you’re charged with ridding the world of the Pestilence, a deadly plague that is making a return. It leans into the soulslike combat, which makes this a great fit if you’re looking for parrying, dodging, and daunting bosses.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One
What started out as a Kickstarter campaign in 2020, Eiyuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes was originally set to release in 2022. The spiritual successor of the Suikoden franchise, Yoshitaka Murayama, launched Kickstarter to bring his final vision to life. He has worked on the Suikoden games, so this is surely going to be an epic JRPG.
Another Crab’s Treasure
Release Date: April 25
Platforms: PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass
Another Crab’s Treasure is the second Soulslike game in this list. What started out as a crazy idea became a passion project, and now the finished game is launching on multiple platforms. You play as a crab whose shell was stolen. You are told that you could have the shell back in exchange for a legendary treasure, and you set out to claim it and restore your old life.
Manor Lords
Release Date: April 26
Platforms: PC, PC Game Pass
This is another title I’m really looking forward to. Manor Lords is one of our Upcoming Early Access games to watch in 2024. It’s a city builder, medieval battler, and tactical survival game all rolled into one. Large-scale combat scenarios are a particularly big draw to the title, with mechanics like fatigue, weather and the environment, and equipment condition all play a part in your success or failure.
Stellar Blade
Release Date: April 26
Platforms: PS5 (exclusive)
Stellar Blade is already making waves thanks to its salacious opening and Soulslike combat. Described as a mix between the Nier franchise and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the title was originally announced as Project Eve. As the last Soulslike on the list, Stellar Blade features fast-paced combat mixed with countering and evasion mechanics. This game is a PS5 exclusive and has a demo currently available.
