The studio claims three major goals in implementing the program: bringing new gaming experiences to the public, helping developers make the most of their products and offering those studios a comfortable level of security. EA plans to accomplish that final purpose by giving game profits directly to the developers.

In a statement, EA Studios Executive Vice President Patrick Söderlund commented on the new initiative:

With EA Originals, we are committed to finding great new games that we know players are going to love, and working with small developers to make sure those games get discovered and into the hands of players.

The first EA Originals game is called Fe. According to Söderlund, the game is “a personal narrative about our relationship with nature, the land, and its beings.”

EA conceived the idea for the program as a result of their partnership with developer Coldwood on Unravel. The game received mostly positive reviews, including a rating of 8 on GameSkinny.
