Brief: Household Multiple Emission Sources (HOMES) model

Overview

The WHO Household Multiple Emission Sources (HOMES) model can help policymakers and program planners determine how household air pollution levels and health will be affected by the use of up to three different stoves, space heaters, or lighting devices. By specifying characteristics of the household and devices, users can determine expected levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in kitchens, personal exposures, and the associated risk for acute lower respiratory infection (ALRI). The model allows users to enter locally- specific input data when known, or use the most relevant values from the WHO Database of Input Variables. Information gained from the model can inform decisions about stoves and fuels to promote through household energy policies based on desired impacts on household air pollution and health.
