Just saw a notice in Google Analytics:
Universal Analytics will no longer process new data in standard properties beginning July 1, 2023. Prepare now by setting up and switching over to a Google Analytics 4 property.

More info is provided here:

UA is being replaced by GA4, and it is much different than UA. I have used it on some newer projects, but those are still in dev-mode so I can't really say for sure how disruptive this will be.

I've been reading up on GA4 and it solves a number of issues, one of which is complying with the privacy laws around the World. Third-party cookies are a thing of the past, from GA4.

It'll also work across the web and app, and will allow for future development.

As it's now known when the Universal Analytics will sunset, anyone wanting to use Google Analytics 4 should consider integrating it to allow for historical data to build.

I suspect as we approach the sunset date, Google will push it back. This is a big change and many internal corporate marketing teams aren't ready or willing to switch over just yet.

Even if Google pushes back the deadline, there is no reason to delay. Smarter to add GA4 now, so we all can understand how it differs from the outgoing UA and adjust KPIs accordingly. GA4 is very different from traditional UA tracking. The switchover will hurt but it is worth it.

- Privacy-focused and durable for the future
- Intelligent, using machine learning to unearth insights about the customer journey across platforms and devices
- Enhanced, seamless integrations with Google's advertising platforms to optimize campaign performance and drive greater marketing ROI

Using machine learning on people to better extract dollars from their wallets doesn't have that 'private' feel,

Will there be a lite version for people who also have sites they just want an accurate pageview count per url? This is overkill for that purpose.

I think it is one size fits all, but there are other solutions. From the little experience I have with GA4, it really seems geared towards a different paradigm. If all you have is a simple, mostly static website, where each page view is the result of a new request, than it may seem like overkill, not intuitive. But if you have a fully dynamic site or web-app the uses ajax to progressively feed new content then you quickly see why there was a need to change from UA to GA4.

Now 10 minutes on the Google analytics page, still unable to find out, where to find the new code,
I even was unable to find out, is there a new code necessary.

@jetteroheller Does the Migration link I posted above help with that?

Also took me 10 minutes to find the new code.

It's so complicated, doesn't suit my sites at all.

tried the GA4 and found the new code makes the LCP in Page Speed Insights rise from 1.9 to 2.8. tested it on several pages over 10 days. as 2.5 is Google's limit, won't be using it for now

I just converted one of my sites. I made Pagespeed.We.dev comparison with and without GA4 code.
Performance 75 vs 86
Time to interactive 2.9 vs 0.8
I implemented 2020 an own system for information about visitors.
Even the battery state is transmitted, because I was curious about differences in seasons and weather conditions.
This is done by some lines in JavaScript. No idea why GA4 slows down page loading so much.
I have pages which should earn money by AdSense and pages to promote the own political party, philosophy, and products.
I removed Google Analytics 2020 at all pages without Google AdSense.
This was to remove the This site uses cookies messages on all this pages.
