  • Expansion: Cataclysm

As with every expansion, Cataclysm brings its own handful of Legendary weapons for players to obtain. Similar to the previous two expansions, there are no Legendaries available at the start of the expansion, instead coming with the final two raid tiers.

As we have a more modern transmog system in place, players are able to use Legendary items for transmog, meaning that you will be able to show off your hard-earned weapons even past Cataclysm Classic.

Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest

The first Legendary available is a caster staff with a damage-related proc and an on Use: mount transformation. This staff will be the best in slot option for any DPS caster throughout both the Firelands and Dragon Soul raids. After quite a long time between caster Legendaries, this one very much earns that iconic orange color.

Similarly to [Shadowmourne], this weapon starts (relatively) weak, as the [Branch of Nordrassil]. Despite being the weakest of version, getting your hands on this will still take quite some doing, and involve quite a few runs of the Firelands to create. This time around you are also required to participate in the raid, and cannot simply buy the materials from the auction house for a small fortune.

This is upgraded into the [Runestaff of Nordrassil], a solid 13 item level upgrade, now on-par with Heroic items from the Firelands. This time, you will have to head into the raid and gather an arbitrarily large number of [Seething Cinder] from the bosses.

Finally, [Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest] is obtained after either performing an obtuse ritual during the fight with Ragnaros on Normal difficulty, or simply by beating him on Heroic difficulty. To finalize your staff, you will have to meet Kalecgos in your capital. This starts the iconic ceremony that inevitably leads to “Why are there dragons in Orgrimmar” questions in General Chat.

The Fangs of the Father

This is the first Legendary that is exclusive to a single class. While you could argue that [Thori’dal, the Star’s Fury] was Hunter exclusive, it was still usable by everyone. The [Fangs of the Father] consists of [Golad, Twilight of Aspects], and [Tiriosh, Nightmare of Ages]. Unlike our previous Legendary set, the [The Twin Blades of Azzinoth], these weapons start and end their life as a duo that you upgrade as you go.

Working with the rogues of Ravenholdt Manor and the son of Deathwing, Wrathion, Rogues will need to utilize all their guile to gather intelligence and learn more about the Black Dragonflight.

These daggers start their life as [Fear] and [Vengeance], forming the Jaws of Retribution. Upgrading these involves gathering [Shadowy Gem]s from Dragon Soul. With these in hand, you will have to sneak around the ruins of Karazhan to assassinate the leader of the Blackwyrm Cult.

The next form of the daggers is the Maw of Oblivion, consisting of [The Sleeper], and [The Dreamer]. Using these, players are once again tasked with gathering large quantities of an item from Dragon Soul bosses. Fortunately, this is almost all there is left to do, and once you have your [Elementium Gem Cluster]s and have slain Deathwing, your quest is done.

The last stage is the [Fangs of the Father], consisting of [Golad, Twilight of Aspects], and [Tiriosh, Nightmare of Ages]. These daggers come with a very wordy 2-set bonus, granting a stacking Agility buff that culminates in a burst of combo points and most importantly, cool wings. Additionally, the daggers have an on Use: ability that grants the user slowfall, and you guessed it, wings!

I love MMOs of all shades, especially the nitty gritty numbers parts of them. You might recognize me from the Shadow Priest discord, otherwise I play a little bit of everything, especially games with support roles available.
