Cheers to Mom! Some ideas for Mother's Day weekend in Tucson

Mother's Day in Tucson does not have to be ordinary. Here are some things to do this weekend, ranging from baking to dancing.

Second SundAZe Family Day - Mother's Day Edition

  • When: Sunday, May 12 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Where: Tucson Museum of Art, 200 W. Alameda St.

The Tucson Museum of Art will have a day full of events to enjoy with mom. At 11:30 a.m., there will be a family yoga class presented by Yoga Oasis followed by a dance class by Tucson Ballet at noon  From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be art activity stations where attendees can create paper flowers, self portraits and a framed Instax picture from the museum. The event is pay-what-you-wish.

Learn to make sourdough cinnamon rolls  

  • When: Saturday, May 11 from 2 - 4 p.m.
  • Where: CATALYST Creative Collective, 4500 N. Oracle Rd. Suite 110

Casita Catalina is hosting a "My Grown Up and Me" baking activity. The ticket covers the adult and a child. They will make a tray of sourdough cinnamon rolls to take home and bake on Mother's Day plus a bag of cream cheese frosting to glaze over the rolls after baking. There will be options like adding nuts or dried fruit. Tickets are $60.

Mommy, Me & Mimosas Paint Party

  • When: Sunday, May 12 at 12 - 2 p.m.
  • Where: Hotel McCoy Tucson, 720 W. Silverlake Rd. #302

This mommy and child (3 years and older) event will allow attendees to paint a butterfly painting. All supplies will be included. There will be beer, wine, mimosas and food for sale to enjoy while panting. A mother and child ticket is $70 and the single ticket is $35.

Free Mother's Day Yoga

  • When: Sunday, May 12, times vary per session
  • Where: Barefoot Yoga, 7053 N. Oracle Rd.

Barefoot Yoga will be holding several free yoga classes for Mother's Day. There will be a Hatha session at 9 a.m., a Gentle Yoga session at 10:30 a.m., a Yin session at 11:45 p.m. and a Crystal Sound Bowl Meditation at 12:45 p.m. Spots can be booked online.

Catch a "Music Under the Stars" performance by the Pops Orchestra

  • When: Sunday, May 12 at 7 p.m.
  • Where: DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center, 900 S. Randolph Way

The Pops Orchestra community concerts are free and open to everybody. It is outdoors, so be sure to bring a chair or a blanket - and some sandwiches wouldn't hurt.

Visit Tohono Chul

  • Where: 7366 Paseo del Norte

The Tohono Chul will be hosting an art sale and trunk show from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on both Saturday, May 11, and Sunday, May 12 in the Wilson Room. Admission into the gardens for mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers and other maternal guardians is free in honor of Mother's Day.
