"For the crime of descrating Kingbob287's pumpkin patch, the thief 9re9oryNine is to be exiled to the far reaches of the End. His spawn will be set to an island, he will be muted, commandless and stripped of his inventory, save for the item he coveted. May Notch have mercy on his soul."

Greg sighed as he read the book in his inventory. It had been a year since he was exiled, and a lot had changed since then. All the people he knew had moved on, including the moderator who punished him, and none of the newcomers dared to venture far from the mainland.

He shudders as he recalled his first days on that forsaken island. The isolation was maddening, and jumping into the void only brought him to the same spot of bedrock the mods set him on. Days became weeks, then months, as chat progressed without him and slowly forgot he was there.
It was the lone chorus tree on the island that kept him alive and productive. Over many months of farming and patience, he fed from its fruits, made clothes and leather from the peels, and used its branches to form tools that would allow him to mine his first stack of endstone.
Greg silently thanked the server plugins that allowed him to craft armor and tools out of the endstone, something the old staff overlooked when they marooned him. Endstone, whilst being less durable than iron, is lightweight, blastproof, and most importantly, plentiful.
From there he decided to travel back to the overworld, by hopping from island to island using his nigh-unlimited supply of endstone. Many times he fell to the Void and returned to the beginning, but the thought of returning to his home as a "take that" to the mods kept him going.

He put the book away, adjusted his shulker helmet and looked around. Right now he is around forty thousand blocks away from the origin, where he assumed the mainland would be. Far to the east, he could see a faint outline that juts out from the barren floating landscape.
Pulling out stacks of endstone, Greg slowly bridged his way to the unknown structure, hoping it was another city. The last end city he visited had only a tattered elytra, as well as several shulkers which he dispatched with great difficulty. The hard-won shells now adorn his endstone armor.
As he continued on his bridge, a faint chirp sounded from behind, startling him. Hastily he pulled down his visor, the half-eaten last piece of the pumpkin he originally was tricked into stealing. Without making any sudden moves, he turned to come face-to-face with an Enderman.
In the past, these creatures were quite fearsome. But after surviving the End for a year, Greg was well prepared to deal with this one. After building a ceiling using spare blocks, he pulled out his endstone sword and swiped at the Enderman, its soulless wail echoing in the Void.
The mob was killed before it had a chance to swing its arms. Picking up the dropped Enderpearl, he attached it to his belt with the others he had collected. In case he accidentally falls, he can access his pearls easily to save himself. After a long perilous journey, the last thing he needs is a respawn.

Upon reaching the next island, he walked further inland before pulling out some chorus peels from under his armor. Whilst the fruit does fill the stomach, the random teleport effect has caused a few near misses. With no other food in the End, he has gotten quite sick of the taste.
Looking closer at the structure ahead, Greg could see that it was not a city at all, but a base. Gleefully, he headed over, hoping that it wad still inhabited. He was merely a few steps away when suddenly he froze. On the ground in front of him, barely visible amongst the endstone, was a tripwire.
Cautiously, he navigated his way through the traps and reached the base, a spire of cobblestone, seemingly abandoned over time, as there were many holes where Endermen have removed parts of the wall. Inside the tower, a solitary lectern stands displaying an open book.

"Greetings traveller! You have found one of Airnomadd's launch towers. Repair your elytra here using membranes sourced by my phantom farm! Make sure to vote me in the next contest! PS Please do not set traps outside this tower, it's very mean. Sincerely Airnomadd"

Greg chuckled to himself at the irony of the message. After silently listening to chat throughout the year, he was aware that Airnomadd left the server months ago after a toxic argument with the moderators, after they found his illegally obtained phantom mob spawners.

He started to climb the spire, making sure not to fall. If his hunch is correct, at the top of the tower is a chest containing a surplus of membranes, as well as an anvil to repair his tattered elytra. As he finally reached the top, he could see the familiar brown box. But something was off.
Greg noticed the red tinge around its lock and immediately realised the danger. He mulled over what to do. Trying to find the trap might accidentally set it off, and destroying the chest might be the trap itself. As risky as it sounded, he decided to open it and hope for the best.
He could hear the familiar hiss of the TNT as he lifted the lid, and quickly equipped the first item he could lay his hands on. As he closed the lid, the whole tower exploded. While his endstone protected him from damage, the knockback launched him up into the sky......where he glided safely to an island further away. On his back he wore a new elytra, not fully repaired, but in much better condition than the one he had. As he landed on the next island, he looked back at the damaged tower. The chest and the rest of its contents were destroyed.
Saddened by the missed opportunity, but relieved at his fortune, he marched on in his search for the end portal.
One day he will return to the overworld, and using the last of the pumpkin seeds in his mask, he will start his own public farm. But for now, the focus is to survive.
