Hey guys. My friend let me borrow his laptop in class so i deiced to play around on World Painter, instead of doing work like a responsible young man. XD So yeah, in the 30 minutes I had, I went and created "Slumbering Rise."
This map is my version of a tectonic collision. Tectonic plates, for those of your who don't know, are big chunks of the earth's land and/or ocean floor that "float around" on the magma inside the earth. Some times the pull away from each other and make new land by cooling magma, other times the collide into each other and make mountains and the like.
So, since we're done with that mini science lesson let me tell you about the map. Two land plates are colliding and since they are around the same weight neither one is sinking below the other. So instead they are crumpling like a paper would if you pushed it together from both sides. They are also moving down to cover the ocean plate that started to move upward. So all three are moving toward the middle but since the ocean plate weighs more it is sinking beneath the other two. That explains all the ridges and mountains. The islands were created by a sudden crack and earthquake in the ocean plate that released a large amount of magma to the surface.
