it does make sense cuz honestly I don't know what all goes on on Skindex but I suppose we all await further developments.

we don't know. the only info we have (from the page u get when u try to visit the website) is "we are currently addressing a dmca complaint. due to this, our site is temporarily unavailable."

a few guesses i have:
- there were ppl re-uploading/stealing skins from marketplace packs so mojang/microsoft has stepped in
- either nintendo or disney, both companies notorious for handing out dmca violations, got to them. nintendo has a history of striking minecraft content already, too. around the time pokemon quest came out, they gave the pixelmon mod creator a cease & desist. (that's why the mod is now pixelmon reforged or generations; someone else picked up the project)
- similarly, could also be smth to do with commissions. if people take commissions to make characters that are ip of some big company or smth (fanart commissions), i believe that's technically illegal..so if any of those creators were advertising those commissions on skindex..they could have been ordered to take down all those posts

but again, we don't really know. could be smth different entirely. (also sorry lacuna for the massive comment :sob:)

I'm a bit out of the loop but what is the dmca and what kind of problematic content would they need to remove?

I don't have a good feeling about it at the moment, but hoping it comes back as I don't want other people who don't have their work on another site to lose everything :(. I'm only losing some bases which is still frustrating as some are unfinished skins that I wish I archived on here now.

sadly they can just do that, they have no obligations to site users or content.

they were hit with a dmca complaint so theyre either taking time to remove problematic content or they're shutting down for good and were too lazy to make a "permanent" page for it (which is also sadly probable because the last time the site was updated was in like 2017)
