Going to be a little while before I respond to comments and check up on whats happening. Busy rewriting the entirety of Sketchbook Journey. IV, because I realized that I myself found it pretty tedious to read it (oops).
Can't expect others to read something that I myself would not
So I'll be trying out a new format this time around. Release is expected to be this Sunday, with another factory build arriving the day before :D
Need your opinion on this: I am slowly learning how the "content pipeline" works for making YouTube videos, and I'm slowly starting to realize, that I could turn the majority of my studies into short 5-10 minute videos, and release a video every month. I will be doing this, but heres the thing:
My studies are very broad, but can be divided into 4 broad sections: 1. Artificial Intelligence and Co-Creativity 2. History of the arts 3. History of modern ideas (philosophy) 4. History of science and technology
Of these 4 categories, which would you be most interested in hearing more about? (aka. which of these would you be interested in watching YouTube videos on?)
A fun little side project combining my studies with me learning how to use ClipStudio Paint and how to do sound recording properly; combining it all in video editing.
No idea when it will be done, as doing 1 minute of video, takes me about 1.5 hours (oh god), but I'm excited to share this project with you all when its complete :D
I feel weirdly excited and disappointed when I see someone who has spent around 150 hours learning to draw (compared to my current 330 hours), and they just seem to have a much better grasp on the fundamental concepts of drawing than I do, allowing them to make art where I'm like "That's what I want to do!".
Excited because there must be something that I missed along the way Disappointed because someone who has done half the amount of time, managed to get twice as good, like huh??
Guess it's time for me to go out and learn how in the world they managed to get that good, that fast so that I might be able to share that knowledge with you all :D (And make a special sort of 'celebration' blog when I reach 1 year of drawing).
Been thinking for a while now, that this 10 build challenge I'm doing, might be something I'd want to extend beyond just 10 builds. I love my studies and my goal is still to become a full time artist – but its almost like, those are things I do every single day, and consider to be more like work than hobbies.
Then theres building these quick 2-4 hour builds in Minecraft, that sort of act like a break for me where I don't have to learn anything new (and I know this will sound super cocky (sorry!)), because I'm already an expert at building stuff in Minecraft – meaning I can just relax and have fun, and don't have to think about what I'm doing, or even how to improve.
If you feel like it, go for it. Especially if it helps you to unwind a bit from the studies and drawing parts. As for the 'expert building'. You do just fine in that regards. Especially in the minimal time-frame. I do like to gently slap down the 'cockiness' in regards knowing what you're building *kuch* rail changes *kuch*
There will be a short delay on the next entry in the Sketchbook Journey series because I finally got enough money saved up to buy my own scanner! Wooh!
Scanning every page of my sketchbook takes a while longer because the scanner is an A4 size, while the sketchbook is A5. Basically just means I need about a full day more than usual to scan and crop everything haha. But! Higher quality images will be part of the new entry!
Congrats on getting your scanner. I hope it lives up to your expectations. As for the 'short delay'. I don't think anybody is here striping away exact 60 days and expect to see the upload.
Follow up on yesterdays late night thoughts: I like the idea of subtitles, and even going 'the Undertale route' so to speak. However, just as a sort of test – which recording do you like better?
'easy to understand'. Even if it was in my native language I think I'll need some time to wrap my head around it. But at the end of the day, I guess you're used to these kind of books. A quick search shows that this book is from ~1800 (English ~1900). So yeah, 'Older' English ain't helping either.

I tried picking a passage from one of my books that would be easier to understand, but I guess that I did not succeed in that regard haha.
In terms of improving audio: Yes, I did simply make a quick recording on my macbook, using the built in microphone + a quick noisefilter. I do however have an actual microphone (somewhere?) that would be a big improvement. Will deftly consider investing some money into a good microphone and audio setup so that my recordings are not so noisy :)
Glad to hear. Always have that fear (as a non-native speaker) that I have a strong Danish or German accent that makes my speaking difficult to understand haha. But glad to hear that I'm understandable :)
Going back to your late night thoughts, with the way you phrased stuff. I did not expect a -for me- way to complicated long sentence in English as an example usage. I guess it has to do with your studies.
As for which recording I like? AI voice, buuutttt I do prefer the potential in your own voice. The AI one sounds more clear, less echo/hollow? Accent? as a fellow non-native English speaker I like to ask to which accent you're referring. I do think there is also some room for improvement in recording. If I have to take a guess your recording with your phone rather than a dedicated microphone. Plus with playing with some settings would go a long way. But yeah investment time again in that route...
I prefer the first one! Both are good, but the AI has a bit of a weird compression to it, whereas the original sounds more natural. Your voice is easy to understand in both!
Weird late night thought: My English accent is quite terrible, so in the future when I start making video based tutorials on art, would it be a bad idea to use an AI voice changer, in order to make myself more comprehensible?
On the one hand, its easier to understand what I'm saying then – on the other hand, part of my personality also gets lost since it will not be my actual voice (though depending on the settings I use, fluctuations and speech patterns will remain).
I agree with Fawne & -Valery. Although Dreamwanderer suggestion could be an alternative option. Subtitling a video takes time, but Youtube can auto-translate to any other language, so you only have to do it once.
I agree with Fawne. In a case as this, I see a lot of people adding subtitles (for some reason I keep on reading them despite understanding everything). Takes time to add, though.
you could always just add subtitles? would be helpful for folks that are hard of hearing/deaf in general & you wouldn't have to worry about hiding that part of your personality
Hmmm. Could try what ever is comfortable for you. I once thought about using the little character you made me, and add little speech bubbles with 8 bit like noise. Like in old video games =D
