SSPBL Community Gimmicks / Palettes / Suggestions
Who are we?
More information on how SSPBL works found HERE
If any contributions are used, credit will be given to the creator(s). We may mix palettes on occasion, combine ideas, etc.
There is also no limit to how many times you can contribute a gimmick or palette. The more the better!
Gimmicks
Contribute ideas for gimmicks that we could implement and use in SSPBL. These can range from:a new way of selecting colors from a palette
a new limitation imposed on competitors, e.g., 6 colors instead of 12
any other ways to shake things up here at SSPBL
Palettes
Contribute palettes you have created. The number of colors in your palette does not matter, as long as it is more than 2.
If you haven't made a PBL style palette before, KnobleKnives provides an excellent guide on their method of selecting colors:
Color Theory 101, Hue Shifting, Palettes, and STUFF!
Images can be hosted on any image hosting site such as Imgur. We ask that you post an upscaled version to help people view the colors easier. 3x3 images are hard to see in browsers and PMC's image scaling won't do it justice.
Suggestions
Feel free to contribute any other suggestions, ideas or concepts you would like to see used in SSPBL. We want to give the community more impact on SSPBL by posting palettes and ideas, and in true PBL style, have people give emeralds to the ideas or palettes they like best.Create an account or sign in to comment.

something using the NES or gameboy color palettes could be interesting?

Here to map out a texture/resource pack idea.
It would be a long running contest, stretched out over many weeks, with breaks in-between. But each week is its own competition.
Each week could consist of a given palette, and 5-7 textures (blocks, items, mobs, etc.) that everyone will need to create a texture for. If they do not make a texture, they are not included in the poll for that texture.
The game textures that are chosen for the week, will be picked so that they fit the colors of the palette to retain consistency and game appeal. Palettes would be recycled for different weeks to mix things up instead of doing all of the green textures in one go.
By making each week standalone, people are not tied to a commitment. They can come and go, or only texture a few of the assigned textures.
A poll will be made for each texture, and the winner for that week will have their texture used as the default texture in the combined resource pack. But all other contestant textures will also be included using OptiFine, while still favoring the winner's texture more often in-game. It means as you are playing, you will see a random block with a different texture that was contributed by another contestant.
The goal of this format is to eventually texture everything in Minecraft, using limited color palettes, in the typical creative SSPBL style.

Similar to Mxple_Starz 3rd suggestion, all contestants will be given a theme to follow. For example, say the theme is "Underwater", then everyone will make a skin with the palette following the underwater theme. This allows contestants to have a bit of direction when making a skin and when poll time comes, the voters will have another thing to take into consideration (another idea that may be too tough, but the palette could also be made to contrast the theme. So the theme would be "Underwater", but the palette will have very few colors that relate to underwater and will instead have warmer colors).
This can also be taken further and instead of a theme, a single word will be given and contestants must design a skin based off that word. For example, lets say "Memory" is the word, so all contestants using the given palette will create a skin with memory in mind. They can interpret "Memory" however they wish. The words shouldn't be too specific (maybe once in a while) and should be somewhat vague.

Another idea:
The contender picks 12 colors in a palette, and they can do 1 of 3 things, completely desaturate the color, completely saturate the color, or just leave it be.

very late but a suggestion is a suggestion
1) the palette consists of a low number of very different colors, in hue, saturation, brightness, the basics (maybe like three) and have to create a palette of twelve using the opacity tool. It would help if the contestants put a detailed description on what percent of what color was applied to the base color, though that may be a lot of work and overall hard on qualification
2) contestants are given a photo or picture and have to color pick their palette of twelve off of it
3) contestants are required to make a skin of a character or thing or really whatever using their given palette, which means all the skins will be of the same character and it boils down to color constitution and placement choice.

Never late! This thread is meant to collect ideas as people come up with them.
Draft mode: a palette with twelve colors is separated into six pairs of colors. Half the contestants are assigned to three of these pairs and the other half are assigned to the other three. For each pair they've been assigned, the contestants choose, or draft, one color to use in their entry and one color to give to their opponent. Every contestant will end up with six colors they can use with three chosen by themselves and three from their opponent. This could work with any even number of colors (e.g. 24 colors separated into 12 pairs).
This may be hard to coordinate, but it could be fun seeing how people decide to split up the colors.

ms paint color palette
Oooohhh I have a couple of ideas.
1. There are 12 colors as normal, but for each creator gets to invert 6 of their choosing.
2. Everyone has the same pallet, but they are also given a pre-made skin that has certain details already made, and they must “finish” the skin, not changing any of the premade details.
