/!\ USE THIS DATAPACK ONLY IN VERSION 1.20.5 AND 1.20.6 /!\
/!\ BECAUSE THIS DATAPACK USES EXPERIMENTAL SETTINGS, IT IS BEST TO QUIT AND REJOIN THE WORLD WHEN UPDATING THE PACK /!\
[REQUIRES A RESOURCE PACK]

This datapack was originally created in under 8 days for the IMAGEination Datapack Jam, but has now been updated from 1.20.4 to 1.20.5-1.20.6 and has been improved on some aspects.
[Interpretation of the image: An endless desert which cannot be escaped using only the ressources that it provides. Some wizards have discovered a way to transport portions of the Overworld to this dimension in order to use their ressources (we can see mountains in the background that don't fit the rest of the environment).]

Concept:
You are trapped in a desertic dimension. The only way to escape is to craft a Pocket portal which lets you travel between the Desert and the Overworld. In order to craft it, you need ressources that can only be found in the Overworld, so you need to use Snapshot bubbles to take "snapshots" of Overworld chunks and place them in the Desert.

Dimension
The Desert, a gigantic desertic land with an odd green sky. Nobody knows why it exists.
Desert

Desert

Block
The Distorted fungus is a special fungus that can be found naturally on some rocks in the Desert. It drops between 1 to 3 Distorted spores.
Distorted fungus

Items
Distorted spores
Dropped by Distorted fungus blocks.
Its name comes from its strange ability to distort the very fabric of reality. Can be used to craft a Snapshot bubble.
Distorted spores

Snapshot bubble
Crafted by throwing 1 Ender pearl and 1 Distorted fungus on the ground.
This item has three "modes":
1: While holding it in either of both hands, scans the Overworld biome at your position every 3 seconds.
2: When empty and in main hand, right click to fill it with a copy of the Overworld chunk (including entities) at your current position.
3: When filled and in main hand, right click again to place the copied chunk at your position, consuming the item in the process.
Can be used to craft a Pocket portal.

V1.1 Only
When scanning, displays the biome in red if the chunk has already been taken in snapshot. If you stand in a placed chunk, displays the coordinates at which it was copied.

Snapshot bubble (empty)

Snapshot bubble (filled)

Pocket portal
V1.0 Only
Crafted by throwing 1 Snapshot bubble, 1 Diamond, 5 Copper ingots, 32 Acacia logs and 32 Jungle logs on the ground.

V1.1 Only
Crafted by throwing 1 Snapshot bubble, 1 Diamond, 5 Copper ingots, 32 of the same "WARM BIOMES ITEM" (= a list of items found in warm biomes) and 32 of the same "COLD/TEMPERATE BIOMES ITEM" (= a list of items found in cold or temperate biomes) on the ground.

Right click while holding it in the main hand to travel between the Desert and the Overworld. It takes 5 seconds to teleport during which you are slowed down. Cancels the teleportation if you stop holding the item or if you take damage.
Teleports you at your current position (if obstructed, tries in an 8 block radius, if still obstructed, tries in a 16 block radius, if still obstructed, informs you that this position isn't valid).
Pocket portal

Structure compass
V1.0 Only
Sold by expert cartographers in the Desert for 5 Distorted spores and 1 Compass.
Points towards a structure in the Overworld. Two variants exist (every expert cartographer sells both):
  1: Jungle pyramid
  2: Savanna village

V1.1 Only
Sold by expert villagers in the Desert for 5 Distorted spores and a different item for each villager.
Points towards a structure in the Overworld. Seven variants exist:
  1: Jungle pyramid (cartographer)
  2: Ocean monument (cartographer)
  3: Igloo (cleric)
  4: Ruined portal (cleric)
  5: Plains village (farmer)
  6: Taiga village (farmer)
  7: Savanna village (toolsmith)

If you use the seed 8197413184435491362 with this datapack, at the coords 150 65 346 you can get a village with two blacksmiths as well as a triple house with a church and two houses PERFECTLY together!

I really enjoyed this datapack, the collecting chunks mechanic is a really cool idea, and I really enjoyed playing with it. I also really liked how the cactus dropped its leafs as food. The only other thing I would have like to see, even thought it is a minor detail, would have been a little backstory, like why are you in the desert.

I also really like this interpretation of the image.

I'd like to start by saying that this is a really cool concept. Being trapped in another dimension and needing to collect chunks from the overworld is really really cool. I like the Desert as a dimension as a whole, the wavy dunes and the sparse rocks and dead trees. My favorite part, however, has to be the chunk copying. I had a lot of fun flying around copying large amounts of chunks at once, I got some pretty cool screenshots too. The pack feels well put together, and rather thought out. It was especially fun, and kind of weird, to copy a bunch of chunks and then use the pocket portal!

I didn't find any major bugs whilst playing, the only issue I have is the cost of the pocket portal. While I understand that it was intentional to make them cost acacia and jungle wood, to me at least it makes the game last way longer than it needs to. And yes, I understand that the cartographer carries structure compasses, you still have to level up the cartographer. This isn't anything wrong with the datapack, just a nitpicky design preference on my end.

Oh woah thx you so much! I'm glad that you liked it! 😁

I totally agree with you about the craft of the pocket portal, I just didn't think of any great ideas for it that I would've had the time to implement
