I can't help but think that a feather being able to negate all fall damage for the rest of the game might be a bit overpowered, perhaps you could massively reduce the drop rate from chickens, or require a large number of feathers to be crafted or thrown together to get an enchanted looking feather which then gives you slow falling, otherwise the game becomes a bit unbalanced.
