Atmospheric Nether expands on the Nether by altering major worldgen aspects while keeping in mind adventure and exploration as well as technical aspects of Minecraft. This pack is made to be geographically and geologically immersive and imaginative.
First, the Nether, from bedrock floor to ceiling, extends from -64 to 256, with another 64 blocks above the Nether roof to play with.
The major features of this datapack include the following:
- There are now "continental" regions of the Nether. These regions host valley-like terrain and plateaus, as well as the occasional peak. These regions are surrounded by towering and dramatic cliff faces that most times reach the netherrack ceiling. Often at the center of these continents are remnants of volcanic activity, and sometimes extremely vast oceans of lava left over from the geological phenomenon.
- The continental boundaries are often carved into by the rivers of lava flowing all over the continents. The resulting subterranean rivers often twist and turn underneath the mountain ranges, and sometimes cut right through. Perhaps a strider could be of use navigating the terrain here!
- In the deeper portions of the Nether, Overworld-like cave generation has been added. Large, smooth, and expansive caves mix with noodle and sphagetti caves to form vast networks.
- Entrance caves form underground as well, and are randomly sealed near the surfaces of continents. These caves are completely sealed beyond the continental boundaries.
In addition, 27 new biomes have been added, comprised of:
- 7 new forest biomes
- 9 new cave biomes
- 5 subterranean river biomes
- 6 other "surface" biomes
These biomes are designed to interplay with each other to tell a story about the Nether and its nature. What story that is, is up to you.
Have fun exploring and finding all of them!
NOTES:
- I highly recommend pregenerating the Nether to your desired distance. It can be slow to generate and take up plenty of RAM!
- The vanilla ancient debris y-levels are unchanged.

Do you want to know, or find out on your own?
There is a biome where ancient debris spawns more frequently and in larger blobs. It is up to you to find out where and at what level.
Personal Note From the Author:
Developing this datapack and the subsequent structures add-on has taken me the better part of a year's time (About 9 months!). It is the first venture of mine into worldgen since 1.17. When Minecraft's worldgen was completely overhauled in 1.18, I lost my interest because of the sudden steep learning curve. It took a quite a long time to understand the new and more powerful tools, but thankfully by now there has been a considerable growth in the worldgen community and its knowledge. I would like to thank the people actively contributing in the Stardust Labs' community and Minecraft Configs community, for their help and experience made this datapack possible.
As this is my first project in modern Minecraft worldgen, this datapack features most of my original ideas to the best interpretation I could reach with the tools at my disposal and the time on my hands. While I have reached a point with the project that I am satisfied with, I would still like to continue working on refining certain details and adding more content. However, now that the project is finished for a full release, I can confidently state that I will take an indefinite amount of time to continue. This is a passion project for me that I needed to finish, and I cannot promise to actively maintain it. With all that, I want to invite you, the person who downloaded this, to enjoy this datapack, and I thank you for sharing in my perspective of what the Nether could be like, as well as for reading this.

Compatibility Disclaimer
Most worldgen mods and datapacks, such as Atmospheric Nether, are generally incompatible with each other. This being said, Atmospheric Nether is specifically calibrated to be used on its own, and is in no way guaranteed to work with other worldgen projects.
Keep in mind, the license of this project permits the creation of add-on packs that may bridge the gap of compatibility between projects.

If you are creating a new world, the world creation GUI has an option to open the pack folder, where you will drop the unzipped file in there.
