WHAT IS SHADING: A TUTORIAL
Hi guys. This is a basic tutorial on what is shading. I am typing this because I basically want to tell you guys how to shade correctly, because a load of the skins on PMC have basically none of it.
What exactly is shading?
Shading means to make your skins lighter or darker in areas where there is light, reflectance, or where the sun faces. For example, if you want to shade red, you would make red darker as it goes down. Like so:
The right box is the regular red, but the left one has shading. Which is better?
What kinds of shadings can I use?
Here are the basic ones I use:
CENTER SHADING:
Center Shading is starting to darken or lighten the skin from the center out.
On the top is a more of a freestyle type of center shading, while the bottom one is line by line.
LINE SHADING:
Line Shading is starting to darken or lighting the skin vertically or horizontally (Up or Down).
You can combine both to make it look even more boss.
How do you shade?
To shade on MCSkin3D, you can use the dodge, burn, lighten, or darken tool.
Dodging and Lightening: These tools make a color brighter, until it reaches white.
Burning and Darkening: These tools make a color darker, until it reaches black.
NOTE: Dodging and Burning use smaller units.
I recommend using the Light/Darkening tools with exposures of 4.
