Credit & Why It's Important

by: @-Chloicus-

Hello!
This is my first blog post, so if it's really bad...
this is my first time so please be nice

><><><><><><><

I have been making and sharing minecraft skins on a small app called skinseed for a little over a year now.
In that time I have had two or three skins that have each had over 900 likes and over 1,200 downloads each.
In the descriptions of the skin it states quite clearly that the skins are to be reposted with credit to me, the maker.
No catch, just give credit and I won't send anyone after you.
Pretty simple.

But people don't seem to understand the importance of credit.

So that's what this is about.

creditˈkrɛdɪt/
verb
"to publicly acknowledge a contributor's role in the production of (something published or broadcast)."

It could be a sentence, it could be a paragraph, it could be a whole song and dance about the person who's content you're using.
It doesn't really matter, as long as it's there.

Why is it so important, Chloicus? Why does credit matter?
Well I'll tell you.
Let's say you're making a deadly accurate skin of Tom Holland's Spider-Man. It takes you six and a half hours to finish, and when you're done you post it and...
You get two likes.
Disappointing, yes, but you get over it.

Fast-forward two days, and you're scrolling through your feeds when you see an exact replica of your skin, pixel for pixel, with over a hundred likes and downloads, there isn't even a mention of your name in the credits.
So you rant about it in the comments.
It doesn't seem to bother anyone, and your comments are deleted.

Has that happened to me? No. Not quite on that scale, but it has happened to some people I know.

Not to mention it's in the terms & agreement that you signed onto when you signed up for the app (or website, or whatever)

So please, the next time you're using someone else's skin as a base, or if you're reposting it just to get likes, take a walk in their shoes and see how it would feel.
Please give credit.
Thanks.
