I've been in the military for 7 years using razors up until this year, my hair grows thick and fast so if i dont have a good shave someone is going to say something to me. I get pretty bad razor bumps, so I tried the Braum S3 and it did the job, but you could tell i wasn't using razors. With this one it's almost indistinguishable, the shave is much softer on my supple skin and leaves almost no hair behind. I was skeptical as to whether or not an electric shaver could keep me looking professional every day, turns out I just needed to spend $200. Well worth it for me or anyone that: shaves daily, doesnt like razors, and needs a good looking shave.

Braun Series 8 really meets my expectations for an improved shave, compared to my old rotary shaver, purchased a dozen years ago. I use the companion cleaner & charger after every shave, so my shaver is always clean and charged when I pick it up to use again. The slide-out trimmer works as advertised, although the trimmer gadget seems a little too thick to easily trim nose hair. As mentioned by others, the owner's manual uses cryptic diagrams and symbols instead of words. I still haven't figured out all the symbols, but I'm learning as I go.

I was anticipating going electric and shaving every other day to reduce razor burn but it didn't give me a close shave dry or wet. Every man's beard is different and mine is heavy and prefers a $1.98 disposable Gillette razor vs. a $200 electric wonder. This could work for you if you have a lighter beard but it didn't work for me so I returned it.

I've been shaving for 5+ decades and hated every moment of it so I was truly excited when my wife got me this new Braun electric. I'd never used an electric but the prospect of not having to mess with blades, nicks, cuts, and shave cream was appealing. Normally, I shave in the shower so I tried this wet/dry shaver there first. Had a two day stubble that seemed a fair test. After shaving my entire face, I was unable to detect any change in my whiskers. Okay, let's try it dry, after I got out of the shower. With great effort, I was able to get some patches of hair removed. It felt like I was planing a piece of hardened oak with a dull blade. What a joke! And the included manual was just pictograms like this $250 dollar shaver was a cheap bookshelf from Ikea. Can Braun not afford someone to write an English manual? Do not buy this!

My old Braun of over 15+years had seen it better days so after research opted for this model. What a pleasure it is to get a quick & clean shave. It really handles those longer neck area hairs that seem to grow like weeds! Plenty of power and battery life... I have used it over a month on the original charge and it is still going strong. We full time RV so I didn't have room for a cleaning station but the foil head is easy to remove and rinse out so no issues there.

I bought this razor because of the good reviews, having had a Panasonic electric shaver in the past and then going back to blades. Very disappointed in the lack of closeness of the shave, even after shaving your skin doesn't feel smooth at all. Forget about skipping a day with this shaver, it will grab and pull longer whiskers and you have to go over and over the same spot, it winds up taking longer than a blade would. I wanted to back to an electric because I thought it would be easier on my skin but turns out that's not the case with this model. The trimmer works OK but the design of the razor blocks your view of the trimmer as it's trimming so it's not easy to operate. I'm only using it because I can't bring myself to admit that I wasted $200.

I can’t say with certainty that it was the fault of the shavers. Maybe there’s too much iron in my diet? Nevertheless, I was spending an awful lot of money on shavers that didn’t work. Anyway, I pondered the Braun Series 9 but was concerned about the size of the shaving head and its ability to effectively navigate the nooks and crannies of my aging face. And they (Series 9) always seem to come with a cleaning station or other extraneous accessories. I just wanted a basic shaver that worked and incorporated an attached trimmer - the detachable trimmers are a nuisance. And, I’ve never used a cleaning station and wasn’t about to start at this point in the game. So, I opted for one of the latest Series 8 offerings. Specifically, the 8517s. And... it works! This shaver gives me a closer shave than I’ve had in years! Braun states it’ll shave for 60 min on a full charge. I get 70+ min based on a daily 3 to 4 min shave routine. The trimmer is the same as that installed on the Series 9 Pro+. It works well. In fact, be careful with the trimmer. It’s easy to inadvertently shave something clean off that you didn’t intend to. The shaver is compatible with the Braun Powercase and it comes with a charging stand, which I don’t know too much about because mine is still in the box (extraneous item). Overall quite pleased with this shaver and relieved that I can once again effectively shave the little wires sprouting out of my face. Sincerely hope it will go the distance.

Returned this razor.

My teenage son is entering the age of shaving. We watched all the marketing videos on the Braun website where men with quite thick stubble got their skin cleaned with a couple of passes. Ordered it. But, it doesn't seem to remove my son't peach fuzz. I (the mother) tried to pass the razor on my arm with small barely visible hair - the razor removed about 10% of my hair only. What is the problem, we are not getting it.
