As a graduate degreed engineer, owner of a handyman service and self professed lighting geek I can be a harsh critic of lights, especially one I intend to use almost daily on my job. This headlamp has some really attractive features and will no doubt be the perfect lighting solution for some folks, but the combination of features results in only an average light for my uses. This headlamp is small (very small!) and light (very light!) which drives most of what's good and less good about the light. All other things being equal smaller and/or lighter are almost always a plus. Unfortunately there are always engineering tradeoffs, so smaller and lighter means some other qualities have to give. My disappointments with this light include: -- Even on max the light output is lower than any other LED headlamp I've purchased, even going back the better part of a decade. The light output on max is sufficient for my work, which is always just at arms length, but I'd never consider using this as my headlamp for camping or backpacking (another use I'm very familiar with). -- On the plus, the light that is available has a very even illumination pattern, with virtually no artifacts across the extent of usable light. But, unfortunately, none of the available beams are very well focused, so there's no real spot mode to get some distance out of the available light. -- The headband is very comfortable and since the headlamp is so light I forget I'm even wearing it. That is until the slide buckles on the headband slip (as they always eventually do) allowing the light to go loose on my head and either fall off or slide down my forehead. -- To get the amazing size and weight specs by necessity this light incorporates a small battery. The item listing claims a 3 hour runtime on high, but after several weeks of almost daily use I've never seen that kind of runtime. I end up charging it virtually every day. -- Speaking of charging, the charge port on this newly released, rather expensive headlamp is a micro-USB rather than the now common USB-C. Is this 2013 or 2023? This causes me to need to carry an additional charging cable in my vehicle. Micro-USB, really? -- The first time I opened the waterproofing rubber cover on the USB port it popped off in my hand and I was unable to reinstall it. Luckily I don't work outside, so I don't care much about the waterproofing, but for camping or backpacking I certainly would. -- Premium price for average build quality. -- (Update about 3 days after initial review submitted) I'm updating my rating of this headlamp to just 2 stars. Today I took the headlamp out of my tool bag to use at a client site and it wouldn't turn on despite being fully charged. Pressing the power button, for any length of time, results in 4 red flashes, but no light. I had to resort to the flashlight on my cell phone to work, which is entirely unacceptable. At home I fussed with the headlamp an additional hour after locating the original box & instruction sheet (which BTW aren't posted on the manufacturer's website), without result. A friend (also an engineering Ph.D.) then gave it a go for an additional 45 minutes of instruction deciphering and headlamp fussing without result. This shouldn't be this hard, not should the headlamp be this fragile. If anyone wants to buy this headlamp, I'd happy to sell it for $1, which is about $1 more than it's worth. This headlamp is too fragile to be relied on, so it's of no value to me. Functionally this is a 1 star headlamp, but I like the color scheme and light weight, so 2 stars for this pretty and pretty useless headlamp.If your use prioritizes small and light over all other qualities this may be the perfect headlamp for you. If this light weighed 20% more I'd bet they could have incorporated a 50% bigger battery, then I'd have gone an additional star despite my other concerns. As I said in the title of this review, a mixed bag of pro's and con's.
