I purchase two rolls of these specifically for lighting under the rail of a poker table I was building. I cut the second strip at the first spot that I could cut the strip according to Govee. I used the pre-installed connectors to add that section to the first strip and it works really well. Occasionally I have to update the length to get that last section to respond to app control.
I was left with about 14ft of the second roll and another power supply/controller. I wanted to use the rest considering these LED lights were $100 when I purchased them. I bought some 4 pin connectors here on amazon and soldered one to the strip figuring I'd use that remaining LED tape somewhere. I ended up putting some on the back of my monitor. Again, I had about 3-4 feet left over. I wanted to cut that and add it to each of my speaker stands. I soldered everything up and tested, it worked great. When I installed and added 12' of extension, the last section was messed up. The LEDs were flashing and colors were off. Some sections didn't respond at all. I'm thinking something internally got messed up from installing. I ended up throwing away the speaker stand sections.
I understand not everyone is going to be using this product like I attempted to, and at the current price, these are a great buy. I use Govee can lights in my office as well and I've created a macro in the app so I can press one thing and all the office lighting comes on. If you're on the fence, dont be. My monitor is two feet away from the wall and they light up the wall great, as you can see in the pic. They're bright and can have custom lighting chases and color changes. very cool.

Expensive, but so good!
I bought these lights because I was looking to add to a gift for my boyfriend, who is a DJ. I saw so many high rated LED light strips, but almost all of them had universally meh to bad audio response. I was looking for some specifically that do well reacting to music since my boyfriend loves to DJ. These were expensive, but offered a coupon. I Would've said they were too expensive, but they do so much. They have smart home integration so you can controll them with alexa, google, etc. Or even just directly through the Govee home app. I recommend using the app because it has so many settings and features. I love all the modes it has and you can get pretty in depth at creating your own. It doesnt have to just respond to music, it can also just be a solid color, or several, or moving lights, etc. There are so many options. I usually have it set to the Music response mode, but you can really set it to whatever you like. It only comes with about 16 feet of lights, as it says, which isnt enough to circle a whole room, but I only really wanted it on the wall where our DJ and PC stuff is, so it was fine, however you can easily extend it with another set. You dont just have to set it up on the wall though, you could do it under a bed frame, behind a tv, etc since it works for ambient purposes as well and just general lighting use. Very easy to set up and even easier to install. Feels very good and quality. Has held up super well with frequent use. The lights come with a remote looking thing, which is where the mic is, so you should make sure if you're using it for music, you should put it near the source. Dont worry about it being too loud like with loud speakers, because you can adjust the sensitivity in the app, which is great if you want to prevent it from reacting to you talking or other quiet noises. The mic is impressively sensitive, so that's great. You can also make you phone the mic if you feel the need. Can't recomend enough. Do note that these are for indoor use, though. If you're looking for outdoor, Govee does make some and they look pretty good. Very interested in getting those.

The Govee Hone app privacy data is unreasonably invasive. I can’t begin to imagine any benefit to the customer from this app being able to access my health records, text/emails, and photos and video/sound recordings. I contacted the company but have not received a response yet, but as the app is listed to a separate company name, I don’t expect any info. I will update this as appropriate.
The product itself is well made, appears premium in material and emitter performance/density. Unfortunately, it appears you lose all of the custom animation options without the app. If it weren’t for the limited use without the Govee Home app privacy invasion, this would easily be a 4/5 review. Without that, what you can use it for makes it overpriced in my view. If I come across a less invasive app, I’ll also update for that.
Update. I’ve received numerous replies from Govee regarding my privacy concerns. From their information, it appears the app is so broad due to its use as a home automation hub that can include smart scales and location automations. They further state that the definitions of info accessed does not allow for more detailed breakdown of the specific info, just types. I am trying the unit out now. The light density and personalizations are very sharp, but so far that is only through the Govee app. The HomeKit control is much more limited to basic controls including a touch color palette, but not the automations of the Govee app control. I have upgraded my rating to reflect.
