You could feel some heat but it felt more like a handwarmer packet
1 out of 5 stars
You could feel some heat but it felt more like a handwarmer packet
DID NOT GET HOT AT ALL. It felt lukewarm. You could feel some heat but it felt more like a handwarmer packet. At first I was going to say it felt like papa johns pizza boxes when you lay it on your lap ordering delivery but pizza can get pretty hot after a minute or two in your lap. Even a hot plate of food is hotter than this heatpad. Actually pizza caN get pretty damn hot.I read the other reviews ( i sit for hours reading reviews before making a purchase) so when i order it, i will not make any mistakes.Shouldnt have listened to the positive reviews. They must be really weak or sensitive children because this didnt do a thing for my pain.If youre a female with bad cramps, chuck the idea of this out. It does NOT get hot or even close to hot. And physically speaking, it CANT help in making pain feel better or going away because heat is necessary to open the muscles. If you want the facts, a temperature of 104 to 107 degrees F is what usually is hot enough to relax the myometrium(cramped muscles) in women which then allows the usually-restricted blood flow to actually flow smoother. What causes cramps is cramping and knotting muscles hence the word cramps. They hurt like hell. Some weak handwarmer level heat is going to do nothing. You need hot-leave-red-marks-on-my-thigh-pizza-box-hot heat in order for the heat to penetrate the skin, and then the thick muscles in order to get relief. So heat opens and relaxes the muscles and allows blood to flow through instead of constricting it so you wont feel like your stomach is wringing out your innards over and over again. For 30 bucks, it isnt worth it. Ive seen pads for less than 10 bucks have the same amount of hear. Orrr you could just go by hand warmers at the dollar store and put a bunch on your area of pain. Thats how weak the heat is.And for other pain, it will be even weaker. Considering the muscles in the stomach are easier to heat treat than lets say, the thick neck or shoulder of a man, this pad is useless.I really think the people who gave many stars are clueless that there ARE hotter pads than this out there.Honestly i wouldve been fine with even less than pizza hot box level heat. Something weaker wouldve sufficed but this didnt even get hotter than the best quality hand warmer.I wont go into any cons about frilly looks or ease because theres no point when it has one purpose and it doesnt do the job well.SO, i will be returning this and I will update with how easy it was to return or how customer service was.Update: i passed the date of returning it. I tried using it 3 more times and it never got any warmer than the first time. I let it run for a whole 2 hours. This thing just doesnt do what it should. Warm you. Thermometer doesnt even read it being anywhere close to hot as some other heating pads. It wasnt even at normal body temperature. I will update again, when I find a heating pad that actually works. For now, it is sitting in a donation pile.

I have had this pad since 2021. I use it monthly if you catch my drift. Tonight it stopped working so I came here to read reviews and ask questions. Someone commented that if it stops working not to toss it but to reset it by unplugging it. I had it plugged in but off all day today and unplugged it for a while and tried it just now and it works again! I’m so happy I saw that comment because it works again and I didn’t throw it away. Overall I’ve used sunbeam my whole life for heated pads and blankets. They’re the best. This pad is so soft and easy to rest with and large enough to be comforting wherever you need it.

I bought this as a replacement for my old Sunbeam that went out on me recently & since I was alrdy shopping, I bought 4 others also, for myself & my daughter to compare (& maybe a gift or so…)

Opaul’s was the 1st one, which was hideous as it never got above lukewarm!!! & even my teen didn’t want it as the heat just wasn’t nearly hot enough!!! So sadly I had to send those 2 Opaul 1’s back Alrdy!!! (And I rarely go thru the trouble of returning anything unless it is near useless!!! So, Yeahhh, these were THATTT BADDD!!!)

I also bought one of the blanket-sized ones from a seperate & diff company called Ambershine, (which was just an ok & decent 1) & then another diff Sunbeam one of varying size…

Here I must say that Suprisingly, the VERY BEST 1 out of them ALL— is this Sunbeam XL Teal 1 heating pad just exactly like my old 1!!!! That totally blew me away!!!

But I do think that Sunbeam’s heating pad was Just So Very well built many years ago, that I guess they don’t need to improve on it’s design at all!!
It truly is an easy to use & great design that heats up very fast & strong!!! &
It DEFINITELY is SO worth the extra 3/4 bucks above the Opaul version.

The Sunbeam 1 just gets wayyyy hotter & that’s Even on the lowest setting!!! which is called “warm”!!! And that’s even tho Opaul has way more settings for heat supposedly.

But I personally tried Opaul’s out after my kid tried hers & I agreed w her that their HIGHEST heat setting still didn’t even come close to comparing to the heat output from the LOWEST setting on Sunbeam’s 1!!!
And Opaul’s also doesn’t even get close to touching the ease of use,
The fast warm up time,
As well as the VERY strong heat output & relief (from pain) that you get w this Sunbeam XL (teal) heating pad!!!
THE ONLY PLUS was it was cheaper. But now I see why!! Cuz Opaul’s just doesn’t work!!!

Anyways,
I just LOVE Sunbeams XL heating pad & this is the second1 I own of this same exact type & brand!
Heck, even my daughter has a XL Sunbeam 1 now, just like mine, after we both tried out Opaul’s & ended up hating it!

So I would TRULY PICK THIS 1 ABOVE ALL OTHERS & cannot say enough good things about this 1 in comparison!!
If you’d been struggling w pain & w the other 3 heating pads ;) you’d know exactly how much easier & much more pain-relieving that this one from Sunbeam is also!!!
It’s just very ez to use & gets SOO HOT!!! What more could u ask for really!?!
Maybe a warranty?
Well, Sunbeam actually does have a 5 yr limited warranty on their products too!
So I just mention this part cuz since I’ve bought my new 1, that’s when I got in contact about the old 1, & found it was still under warranty for this type of item!!!
So a new 1 is being sent to me as I type, so I will just say how Beyond happy I am w this company, their product, and their customer service too!!!
I am just beyond pleased! Even my daughter prefers this heating pad to the others we tried and we use it for diff reasons as well as diff areas.
But if it works for my 19 yr old and myself for various & diff areas then it’s a great product!!!

So, Suffice it to say- Out of the 3/4 diff brands I’ve bought to test, the Sunbeam XL heating pad is the very best!!

It’s the simplest to use, the hottest & the most effective, as well as the easiest!!!! I couldn’t give a better review to any product if I had too!!! Or was paid too! :) & I wasn’t! ;)

Well,
I hope this helps someone out there who’s looking for a new heating pad like I was…

I had a similar heating pad (same size, shape, general construction) that cost a little more than half the price of this one. It lasted for more than a year, but eventually it stoped working. I decided to replace it with this one because I recognized the brand name and based on that, I figured it might last longer. It arrived quickly, and looked very nice - soft, pretty color, seemingly good quality.

During the first use, it heated and remained in on for approximately 20 minutes before turning itself off. The optional auto shutoff was disabled, but even if it hadn’t been, it should have stayed on for 2 hours. My mom happened to be visiting and she suggested that I should try unplugging it and also unplugging the cord from the actual pad before plugging everything back in and trying again. She said she had a similar heating pad and sometimes had to do that. I tried this, but nothing happened. I tried the same method again after about 30 minutes and it worked that time. But again, the heating pad functioned for about 20 minutes before turning itself off. And again I was unable to turn it on again afterward.

The following day I was able to turn it on after performing the annoying multiple unplugging and re-plugging exercise, but this time it stayed on for only about 5 minutes before turning itself off. After 30 minutes, I tried again. I unplugged, re-plugged, pressed the power button, and the power button became unattached from the control box and fell into the inner space of the box. I attempted to return it, but realized it wasn’t returnable. I contacted customer service. They said they would send a replacement and that there was no need to send back the useless heating pad.

I figured this had all been a fluke and that there was no way the sane issues would occur with the replacement. I was wrong. During the first use, the heating pad remained on for approximately 20 minutes. I was unable to
turn it back on after it turned itself off. After 30 minutes, the absurd unplugging and re-plugging exercise worked. This time it stayed on for approximately 10 minutes before turning itself off. Since that time, the heating pad has functioned for a maximum of 10 minutes at a time and no more than once per hour. As of yesterday, it wouldn’t stay on for even a full minute.

Another thing that was happening (even when it wouldn’t stay on for a full minute) was that the control box would get very warm any time it was plugged in. I didn’t notice this with the first heating pad, and didn’t notice it initially with the second, but eventually I realized that it was a thing. I read the 1 star reviews, and apparently I’m far from the only person who has experienced these issues. A few reviews suggest that this is caused by keeping the heating pad plugged in when it isn’t in use. That was definitely not the issue in the case of either of my heating pads. They absolutely came out of the box with their problems and functioned improperly from the first use. They also weren’t left plugged into the wall when not in use. But even if they had been, it isn’t acceptable for an electric appliance to function only if it’s unplugged when not in use. Can you imagine a lamp that had to be unplugged between every use? I’m guessing the heating up of the power box is in some way related to the malfunction and I actually wonder if it’s even a safe product. Regardless, it is a terribly flawed product that should be recalled and reworked before being sold to anyone else.

I’ve just ordered a similar version by another brand for the same price. No reviews say anything about this sort of problem. I highly recommend that you keep looking and buy another heating pad.

This product looks good on the screen. It doesn't worth the money paid for it. when plugged into power, it works for a couple of minutes with little warming and stops working. its control gets heated and lights go off for a long time. need to cool it to be able to use it again for 2-3 minutes.
More embarrassing the item isn't eligible for replacement or return.

1.0 out of 5 stars No longer gets hot. New 'protection' prevents getting warmer than 100°F/37°C, so useless
Reviewed in the United Arab Emirates on January 12, 2021
Most modern 'heating pads' do not get warmer than 100°F/37°C so do not provide any benefit. Old pads that got warm enough to help with injuries or arthritis now banned since idiots put them on colicky babies or old, disabled people and burned them. Sunbeam was rated as still getting warm, but at 100°F/37°C, it shuts off, blinking red light means 'protection' has kicked in, and all warming stopped.
Useless!!!
