About Us

In 1884, Karl Elsener opened his cutler’s workshop in Ibach-Schwyz. In the early years Karl Elsener worked to combat poverty and unemployment in the Schwyz basin, creating jobs and helping stem the flow of emigration. In 1891 he supplied the soldier’s knife to the Swiss Army . He went on to develop the Swiss Officer’s and Sports Knife – now the Swiss Army Knife – in 1897.

    You can spend more money but this knife will be hard to beat. The blade is sharp and thin. The thin blade allows the knife to cut and slice with less resistance than thicker blades. For most tasks you have little need for a thicker blade. It holds and edge, cleans up well, and has a good price. Note: I have lots of knives from many different renowned manufacturers, but this is of my favourite. Understand that all knives should be used with care and be sharpened as needed.

    You don't have to be a great chef to be particular about your kitchen knives! And you don't have to pay a whack of money to get a great knife, either!
    I'm just an ordinary senior who prepares, serves and eats chiefly fruits and vegetables, so I was looking for a good, 3" - 4" thin paring knife that can handle peeling a ripe tomato as easily as a large pomelo or hallowe'en pumpkin and that can slice through large carrots and other tough garden produce.
    I found such a knife in the Victorinox Cutlery 4-Inch Utility Knife with the black polypropylene handle. My previous knife, which had a 3" blade and cost the same as this one, 10 years ago, finally snapped last month. It also had a poypropolyne handle that went through hundreds of washes in the dishwasher, but it basically cost me a dollar a year, and I used it many times a day, EVERY day, even for carving up pumpkins and gourds. Value for money.
    But this time around, I was looking for something with a slightly longer handle AND blade, and very sharp blade that did not require frequent sharpening. So far, so good. After one week's use, I've not had to sharpen it, and expect this one will hold up very well.
    It has a good heft and balance in the palm, the blade does not bend, and I expect it to last as long as the last knife, if not longer!
    For the price and quality, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this knife. It is everything I was looking for.
