Head of Facility – Micro and Nanofabrication  Job Reference: Ref.06.24.32Employer: International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL)Location: Braga, PortugalGroup/Unit: Micro and Nanofabrication FacilityNumber of Vacancies: Employment Type: Full timeContract Duration: 48 months  Open Date for Applications: July 2nd, 2024 Closing Date for Applications: July 22nd, 2024, 23h00m (Lisbon Time)   Key words:   OverviewThe Micro and Nanofabrication Facility (https://inl.int/services/research-core-facilities/micro-and-nanofabrication/)is an open-access user facility that provides training and support throughout the development chain in cleanroom processes: device modelling and design, process integration and device fabrication, packaging and testing.  At present, the facility incorportates 55+ tools integrating a 200 mm wafer line with 100+ users exploring a number of different beyond CMOS technologies.We are looking for a Facility Head to enhance the facility’s alignment with research and innovation activities.   Job Duties The job duties will be the following:
  • Head the Micro and Nanofabrication in all its dimensions, including budget management, resources allocation and participating in the strategic and operational planning.
  • Engage with the different INL bodies to create a cooperative, inclusive and constructive environment;
  • Participate actively in the exploitation of the Micro and Nanofabrication facility as a tool to increase the scientific and technological excellence of INL activities in coordination with INL research and engineering groups.
  • Participate actively in efforts to attract large industrial contracts focused on using the MNF facility;Participate actively in efforts to engage with external and internal users of the facility;
  • Create a maintenance regime that continuously minimises tools downtimes while ensuring long-term stability and reproducibility of critical clean room processes;
  • Coordinate the installation of new tools arriving to the facility, and the potential reorganisation of the cleanroom layout;
  • Identify and actively participate in preparing proposals for new equipment, for the expansion of the cleanroom, with close cooperation with the Core Facilities Steering Committee and Research Group Leaders;
  • Develop a framework to evaluate and promote the facilities impact for internal and external use.
  •   Mandatory Qualifications Education 
  • MSC in Physical Sciences or Electronics Engineering.
  •  Experience and Technical Skills
  • At least 5 years of experience managing a cleanroom facility or sub-unit in an academic context;
  • Experience in tool maintenance;
  • Hands-on experience in technologies developed and exploited in the facility, including 2D Materials and Devices, MEMS/NOEMS, Photonics, Spintronics and Microfluidics;
  • Experience with techniques/tools such as, sputtering, CVD growth, MOCVD, ALD, optical lithography systems, e-beam lithography systems, RIE, Ion Milling, CMP.
  •   Other Skills  
  • Experience in developing, writing, and implementing new procedures and standards.
  •  Preferred Qualifications  
  • PhD in Physical Sciences or Electronics Engineering.
