Job Details

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join Professor Chapman’s Group, to investigate how DNA replication and repair pathways contribute to haematological health and longevity. You will also work alongside other MRC Molecular Haematology Unit research groups, with interests spanning aspects of genome stability, chromatin and transcription, cell lineage development in relation to haematopoiesis. This position will particularly suit a candidate with an established track record in stem cell biology and a keen interest developing expertise in genome stability biology.

You will manage a research project to study how DNA replication and repair mechanisms influence haematopoeitic stem cell (HSCs) self-renewal and lineage commitment equilibria in mammals.  The project will consider physiological sources of DNA damage that affect the HSC compartment, including DNA demethylation-associated programmed base oxidation by TET (Ten-eleven Translocase) enzymes, telomere attrition, and exposure to endogenous mutagens and genotoxic metabolites.

You will hold a PhD (or near completion: thesis submitted at the time of application) in stem cell, chromosome and/or genome stability biology. Proven experience in advanced flow cytometry and or NGS methodologies, genome manipulation (e.g. directed and/or genome-wide CRISPR approaches), FACS and single cell analyses, is essential. You will also have relevant specialist laboratory experience in molecular and cell biology, mouse and molecular genetics, and in vivo studies, ideally related to haematopoiesis.

This is a fixed-term position until 31 March 2027, funded by the Medical Research Council.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement detailing how you meet the selection criteria, as part of your online application.

The closing date for this position is 12.00 midday on 7 August 2024.
