For some odd reason, Optifine doesn't seem to help as much as everyone says it does, at least, for me. It also makes the landscape/textures flicker when there is a Redstone update. (As in, everything in a chunk will disappear, but still be solid.)
So far, I've only tried the multicore version, but I'll try the others.
I have the oddest problem, and I've tried to diagnose it in a number of ways. First I tried finagling with all the settings in different controlled ways, then I tried changing various video settings.. I isolated a clean copy of minecraft and installed just optifine to make sure it wasn't something else. I even messed with my mouse's dpi settings, and looked up and tried obscure java switches ("C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe" -Xincgc -server -XX:SurvivorRatio=2 -jar minecraft.jar - for instance)
All for naught.
It seems whenever I am using optifine (it doesn't happen in any other situation), holding either the left or right mouse button (even when they're not bound to a key! It doesn't happen when I bind attack or use to a keyboard key), the game lags obscenely. My fps will go from 50+ while running around like a crazy nutter without pants to 2-10 fps.
I've got a hd5750 XFX and a quad core Phenom 1 9850BE, and a razor deathadder 3500 mouse, if that makes any difference. I'm on 64bit win7 profession sp1 and I'm using the latest 64 bit jre with proper paths, and I've tried with the multicore and the preview multicore versions. I have also tried the standard, singlecore nonsmooth version of optifine, and with that version, the spikes on the f3 graphs weren't QUITE as steep, but they were still there whenever a mouse button was pressed.
Have you tried using a different mouse and see if it might be something to do with your mouse solfware?
So I heard that with newer versions of optifine you are able to control day and night. Could you apply this to a texture pack, and if so, how? Also, would infinite night mean mobs would be spawned 24/7? Sorry if this has already been asked, I just didn't see it immediately in the OP.
And I've been using this mod for quite some time as just a player, so thanks for keeping it up.

I decided to try and install it again and now I keep getting a black screen, do I have install anything else, I do have several texture packs nad to many items installed.

Ok stupid poeple on this forum who think that every other people is stupid....
Of course I've deleted meta-inf each time we instal a mod we have to do it... so yes I've deleted Meta-inf when I see it... and for Siperior_reich... try it delete your bin floder launch Mincraft download it and go watch in the mincraft.jar... there is no meta-inf on a clean one...
META-INF is there on a clean and fresh Mincraft. You open it with winrar and there you can see a floder named "META-INF".
To delete it you:
Open the Mincraft floder (%appdata%\.minecraft\bin\)
As I said, it's a totaly clean minecraft freshly downloaded ... META-INF does not exist on a new install....
*FACEPALM*
The META-INF folder DOES exist on a fresh install of Minecraft even if you have previously deleted the META-INF folder before.
When you do a fresh install, it gives you a brand-new minecraft.jar file. That is, if you are truly doing a FRESH install. You haven't said anything about possibly using a backup that you might have previously deleted the META-INF folder from. In which case, that's NOT technically a "fresh install." Plus, you did say you specifically "downloaded" a fresh copy. That means you got rid of the minecraft.jar file you were using and Minecraft downloaded the minecraft.jar file from scratch. Deleting that META-INF folder is NOT something like changing a configuration setting somewhere that will be reapplied when replacing the file. It just doesn't work that way. That's why, when installing mods manually and/or directly into the minecraft.jar file, you have to delete that META-INF folder in the first place (on Windows, not Macs).
And, you wouldn't be the first person to have forgotten to delete the META-INF folder again.
(Dang, and I accidentally gave him rep when I thought I was doing that for someone else ... SIGH)
I have an Acer Aspire One D270. It doesn't play minecraft well. Only about 8-10 fps. So I thought I'd try Optifine MT. Because the Acer Aspire One has 2 1.6ghz cores I thought it would speed it up. I have yet to be able to test this. I get this error:
Minecraft has crashed!

I don't use Advanced OpenGL because the intel GMA sucks and this would make it run slower.
I have deleted the meta inf before copying files of the optifine archive...
And when I say a frsh install it's not a backup... I delete all the mincraft folder in the roaming and download a new one...
You keep calling people stupid and then expect them to help you? How would you define THAT behavior?
Do this, immediately after you do a fresh reinstall of Minecraft after deleting everything in that "\.minecraft" folder like you said, run Minecraft so that it automatically downloads a new copy of the minecraft.jar file and then open up that freshly-downloaded minecraft.jar file with WinRAR or whatever so that it displays what folders are in that newly-downloaded minecraft.jar file. GET A SCREENSHOT (before you make ANY changes to the file) and post the screenshot here for us to see.
Oh, and we're not the ones asking for help here. You're the one with the problem. Remember, you're asking US for help. LOL!
Still waiting on your answer as to you why you are asking it here? Doesn't have to do anything with Optifine as far as I can see... Better place to ask for help on that would be here.
um no... you are wrong, optifine has the mcpatcher integration of custom biome colours, my issue is to do with those custom biome colours and why they arent working properly.... if you have read my issue, you would have known that what i wanted is something very relevant to optifine -.-

All Forge versions beyond like 140 clash. But its only ONE file that does and optifine's file wont cause issues. Also your issue with Logistic pipes is your fault. you messed soemthing up. Im using logistics pipe with optifine and no issues. Note im using forge 152 also.
Change texture to default and try. (if ur using a texture.)
Backup your current MC folder then then try the below ---vvvvvv
Fresh MC folder with just Optifine Forge and logistics (ovbiously BC2 also)
Installed in the order of Forge, then Optifine. (OPtifine is always always always LAST)
Did you even read my post? Appearantly you did not, otherwise you would have never made your post as it does nothing to help the issue. Anyways, I will show you just how incorrect you are.
1. Clean Minecraft Version.
2. Using Magic Launcher.
3. Logistics Pipes & Doggy Treats DO NOT show up. This is regardless of whether a texture pack is being used or not.
4. Tried 4 different OptiFine versions. All of them react the same way.
5. I tried your suggestion. Installing Forge, OptiFine, BC2, Logisitic Pipes, & Doggy Treats still produces same issue.
6. Without OptiFine installed through Magic Launcher, Logistic Pipes and Doggy Treats work just fine (they are not invisible).
Point #6 up there flat out states that OptiFine WILL NOT WORK with the current version of Forge. Now, do not get me wrong. It is not a 100% will not work. It seems to work fine with everything BUT Logisitic Pipes and Doggy Treats.
P.S. I tried this with the previous version of forge #121 and did not have this issue. That also shows that OptiFine is not compatible with Forge #152
Have you tried using a different mouse and see if it might be something to do with your mouse solfware?
Yes, infact. I dug a ps/2 mouse out of an acheological dig, and after numerous controlled restarts and application of driver-cleaning technology, I can confirm that the issue persists.

Ok, this might sound weird but have you tried to use another keyboard? The reason why I am asking this is because 1 person that I helped awhile ago had one of his keys that was stuck or broke or something and he had a similar issue that you are having. Worth a shot. If that doesnt work, im not real sure what could be the problem. Sorry.
I've got a problem when horizontal connected textures are used on furnaces.
In the pics below there are 3 furnaces in a row.
When they're all un-lit or all lit they look fine.
If lit and un-lit are together things get a bit messed up.
I know that it's because lit and un-lit furnaces have a different block id.
But, is it possible for Optifine to handle furnaces differently so that they use the right connected texture regardless of whether they're lit or un-lit?
I'm having issues with the vertical Connected Texture Mod settings. The top and bottom are opposite of the MCPatcher version (I want my texture pack to be compatible with both). I have taken both of these pictures with a completely clean Minecraft install.
you need to go into your nvidia control panel and disable Threaded Optimization. That should help with the flickering or disappearing blocks.@mahicool
Ok so I started with a fresh .jar and It stills says 1 error when run under forge in magic launcher. Any ideas?
Have you tried using a different mouse and see if it might be something to do with your mouse solfware?
Just help a noob out!
And I've been using this mod for quite some time as just a player, so thanks for keeping it up.
It only works in creative.
