Some types of slide have a recommended height and width. This is normally because of the default settings on the original platform. In this guide, we’ll explain some of the recommended sizes for YouTube and TikTok slides.
The following slide types do not have specific height and width recommendations:
- Image Slides (we do offer some image size guidelines)
- External Image Slides
- Post Feed Slides
- Layer Slides
- Local Video Slides
- External Video Slides
- Vimeo Slides (Vimeo does have some official suggestions)
Understanding Height and Width
In this guide, we’ll refer to height and width settings in pixels. The height is always first so “1280 x 720” translates to 1280 pixels wide and 720 pixel high. Click here for more on aspect ratios. The height and width settings are in the “Main Options” area of MetaSlider, as in this screenshot:
YouTube Slides
YouTube uses a 16:9 aspect ratio for regular videos. The size you choose will depend on the space available on your site, plus also where you intend most viewing to happen. If you’re optimizing for mobile users, choose a smaller size than if you’re showing videos on a large screen display.
- 426 x 240: This the lowest accepted quality for YouTube uploads and works best for very slow internet connections.
- 640 x 360: This is basic resolution for videos on smartphones, and for videos embedded on websites.
- 854 x 480: This is know and Standard definition and is the normal playback resolution for YouTube videos on mobile.
- 1280 x 720: This is the minimum resolution required for HD (high definition) playback.
- 1920 x 1080: This is where full HD resolution begins.
- 2560 x 1440: This is known as 2K and improves on the basic HD resolution.
- 3840 x 2160: This is known as the Ultra HD or 4K resolution and is best for large screens if you want a really sharp, defined image.
YouTube Shorts Slides
YouTube uses a 9:16 aspect ratio for YouTube Shorts videos. This the ratio is the opposite of regular YouTube videos, so the recommended sizes are also reversed. The same details apply to each video size.

TikTok Slides
TikTok uses a 9:16 aspect ratio so similar size recommendations apply here. However, TikTok may also include the description and tags below the video, so the embed height may be variable.
