In honor of the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics, we’d like to reflect on some of our iconic projects built in partnership with the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA). For the XIII Olympic Winter Games, Gilbane Building Company completed our first project with ORDA, constructing the Lake Placid, NY Olympic facilities: home of the legendary “Miracle on Ice” game. Fast forward 43 years later, Gilbane completed the modernization, renovation, and expansion of Olympic facilities in the Lake Placid area. This included projects such as the Belleayre Mountain Ski Area, the Olympic Skating Complex, The Mount Van Hoevenberg Lodge, the USA Luge Building, and the Olympic Jump Center. We worked alongside several architects, engineers, contractors and design-build teams over the span of 6 years. We are proud to look back on the last 75 years of building New York and the partnerships that have been made and fostered along the way. Here’s to the next 43 years with ORDA as we continue #BuildingMoreThanBuildings! #75YearsBuildingNY #2024SummerOlympics #BuildingMoreThanBuildings

How do you move a 260-foot-long pedestrian bridge from Italy to Buffalo, New York? A barge that will travel through the Adriatic and Mediterranean Sea, across the Atlantic Ocean, up the Hudson River, and into the Erie Canal, of course! Gilbane Building Company is proud, and so excited, to support Ralph Wilson Park Conservancy as they make history in Buffalo, NY by delivering the Ralph Wilson Park signature pedestrian bridge that will connect the park to the Lower West Side over the I-190. The Erie Canal, once a frequented waterway for people and material goods, hasn’t seen a historical transport this massive in decades, and it’s fitting that it was the final leg of the bridge’s journey as Ralph Wilson Park is built on a stretch of greenspace that was formally an abandoned canal waterway. By delivering the bridge by barge, it was able to be prefabricated in larger sections, providing cost savings and an easier assembly. Through navigating high storm waters, working with a geotechnical/structural engineer to determine the specific crane needed to lift the bridge from the barge (the first piece alone weighed 60 tons), and ensuring all necessary hydraulics were in place for the barge to safely approach the seawall with enough water tolerance, the new pedestrian bridge was successfully delivered to its new home on #716Day! Thank you to all of the partners who have helped in the coordination of this amazing feat - Carver Companies Crystal Steel Fabricators, Inc. Cimolai Group U.S. Customs and Border Protection U.S. Coast Guard City of Buffalo, New York, New York State Canal Corporation, Danny's Construction Company, LLC, Port of Coeymans. Stay tuned for updates on assembly as we work to get this bridge ready for public use! 📷 photos courtesy of Stacey M. DDC is making progress on a new multipurpose space at 444 Thomas S. Boyland Street in Brownsville, Brooklyn that will house various civic organizations. The team was on site today with our Design-Builder, Gilbane Building Company and Marvel, to mark the unofficial groundbreaking of the new building. Design-Build continues to be a game-changer for DDC, allowing collaboration between the teams from the outset and early work to begin before design is officially completed.

Gilbane Building Company, alongside our joint venture partner F.A. Wilhelm Construction, is proud to be part of the team constructing the largest healthcare project in North America – Indiana University Health's complex new downtown Indianapolis hospital project. Our skilled crane operators are hard at work, lifting materials into place and ensuring this monumental project takes shape. This project, set to open in 2027, will transform the skyline with three 16-story-tall towers covering 2.6 million SF. The towers will consolidate IU Health Methodist Hospital and University Hospital, providing 864 patient beds and 50 operating rooms. Check out the video below to hear more about the project and how we are continuing to build a healthier future for Indianapolis! #Healthcare #HealthcareBuilder #GilbaneBuildsIndiana #BuiltByGilbane https://ow.ly/Z8NG50SmSEC Aaron Perry

It’s a beautiful day to see major bridge progress! Last week, the Gilbane Building Company Upstate New York team installed the bridge base on the Port of Albany project, which, when complete, will span 400 feet long and connect Beacon Island to the existing Port of Albany property. Scheduled to be complete in November, this bridge will have one of the highest load ratings for vehicular traffic and will be a vital component in ensuring future materials and manufactured products safely arrive at their destinations. Thank you to the Gilbane team, our partners at Albany Port District Commission, TechEdge Consulting, LLC, Matrix New World Engineering, Anchin, Block & Anchin LLP, Rifenburg Contracting Corp. , J. D'Annunzio & Sons, Inc., Servidone, McFarland Johnson, and LaBella Associates for the dedicated effort to ensure this project’s success thus far! #BuildingMoreThanBuildings #75YearsBuildingNY #PortOfAlbany

We always welcome any opportunity to get involved with our local communities, especially when it means inspiring the next generation of construction professionals! Our Upstate NY team recently had the opportunity to present about safety at Pine Bush Elementary School, and the students were able to learn about PPE by participating in a relay race against other classes. Thank you to all who made this great day a success! Tyler Rhude, Eva McCauley, Isabelle Vaccaro, Dylan White #BuildingMoreThanBuildings #PPE #CareerDay #GilbaneCares
