Discord Chat on PlayStation5: Helping more players stay connected

Connecting with friends while gaming is a huge part of what makes the experience of playing video games so fun. Discord is making it even easier for players to chat with their friends while gaming: Discord Voice Chat is becoming available on the PlayStation 5 by Sony .

“Starting today (June 13th), we’re rolling out the ability to join a Discord call directly from your PlayStation5 console — no mobile app needed!”

This new feature was launched first in Japan and Asia, with more regions gaining access after the initial launch.

PlayStation Discord users no longer need to use their phone to stay connected with their friends on Discord. Whether you're an earbud person, a speakerphone person, or a person rocking a pair of Pulse Headphones, there's now an easier and more convenient way for you to connect through Discord Chat. Once your account is signed in on your PlayStation, you'll be able to join Discord calls using your Dualsense, PlayStation Access Controller, or PlayStation Edge controller using your current set ups and button remappings without needing to reach for another device to call your friends.

This update is hugely beneficial for the individuals with disabilities. By making it even easier to chat directly from the game console, Discord and PlayStation are making it easier for players to keep rich social experiences happening. Add in the flexibility and customizable enablement offered by the PS5 Access Controller, and DualSense Edge Controller, and this new feature is going to bring more accessibility to more players.

People with disabilities are 51% more likely to be socially isolated than their non-disabled peers. Gaming offers a whole universe of possibilities for disabled gamers to forge friendships, be part of larger communities, and enjoy social experiences they otherwise would not have access to.

For more information on setting up, check out their help center article, if you want to share suggestions or feedback for the Discord developers around this feature or others you can always share them on the Discord Feedback Forums.

Excited about changing lives through gaming? Consider supporting the mission of accessible gaming for all to help more players get in the game.
