The penultimate stages prior to full burnout are awful. You feel empty, useless as a doctor, parent, friend, partner and you feel hollow. To ease these tough feelings, you numb by whatever way you choose. Alcohol, other substances, scrolling on social media, gaming, eating more or less, anything that works for you to escape feeling the intense discomfort that comes from feeling empty. You feel depressed. Your mood is permanently low and you neglect your needs even more. You feel hopeless, lost and completely exhausted. Herbert Freudenberger defines the emotional exhaustion that accompanies burnout as "the fatigue that comes from caring too much for too long". Sound familiar? If any of these symptoms sounds familiar, please seek medical attention today as your needs matter, your physical and mental health matters, and your recovery from burnout matters too. The good news is that recovery from burnout is possible and it happens. This takes time. One of the most important factors in ensuring your recovery is having the right support at the right time. Certified Life Coach | Helping successful corporate individuals to embrace reinvention, harness their strengths and pursue a self-led, impactful life.
BURNOUT IS REAL! Pressure is high so you try and push down how you feel and pretend everything’s okay. No matter if it’s at work in the #corporate world or in your private life, there’s moments where you don’t feel positive at all, right? Unfortunately ignoring the signs doesn’t work, at least not for long - pushing down negative emotions just delays the inevitable, and it will always come back even stronger. So what can you do? ✨Acknowledge how you feel - you’re human, you’re SUPPOSED to feel. ✨ Feel it and go through the emotion, don’t resist it. (make sure though to keep yourself and others safe!) ✨ Accept it - this is the hardest part because there’s no one way that works for everyone. I’ve found to use a slightly different approach to affirmations in this case. For example ‘This is f*ed up, I’m don’t like it - however, I know everything is temporary so this too will end.’ It's crucial you look after yourself and your wellbeing otherwise #burnout and #depression will knock at your door. No job, no relationship, no nothing is worth you sacrificing your mental and physical #health 💜
