🙌 🎉 🥂 I'm delighted to share that Airgap Networks Inc. (Acquired by Zscaler) has been acquired! Thank you, Ritesh Agrawal, for the opportunity to be a part of this fantastic journey.
When I first met Ritesh Agrawal, I was impressed by his ability to connect the dots between apparently disparate worlds—from hyper-connected cellular devices to air-gapped telecom networks. He was a founder with a unique insight.
Ritesh Agrawal's calm external demeanor can often hide his relentless energy and perseverance. That unique combination helped him build an A+ team and made Airgap an unstoppable force in network segmentation.
Thanks also to all the incredible partners in this journey, most notably:

The complexity that east-west firewalls bring means most segmentation projects are never fully implemented. With Airgap, we will eliminate the need for east-west firewalls, NACs and micro segmentation and deliver greater operational simplicity.

So the big $28B news dropped, a few days ago. Sharing my thoughts as an ex-splunker on this Forrester article, Splunk Is Good For Cisco, But is Cisco good for Splunk customers, community and the security eco system.
What didn’t surface up in the article is Splunk positioning as a vendor agnostic SIEM and SOAR in the world of thousands [1] of security controls vendors and the existing base of Splunk security apps.
50% of 2,800 Splunk apps are categorized under Security today.
It had a flywheel effect when the community users built and contributed Splunk apps from each security partner before it graduated to a partnership between companies and even getting an official badge with support.
With this acquisition, it will definitely benefit Cisco first shops and like to adopt an all-in approach like Palo Alto Networks.
The smaller non-Cisco technology vendors will have to assess their options whether to stop investing in a Splunk’s integration or continue and stand on the shoulders of giants and risk losing to consolidation.
The bigger competing vendors with overlapping portfolio of controls will probably reduce their investments.
It will be interesting to see how this will pan out in heterogeneous or cloud first environments as companies decide between vendor and tools consolidation or diversification.
My two parting thoughts, the security telemetry, logs, detection and response plans belongs to you, take a data and people driven approach if you are in the market of investing or divesting your existing SIEM.
1. Look out for open standards championed by the community and evaluate a platform with a data first approach.
2. As we struggle with scarce data and security talents, security leadership has to balance the skills and resources required between a purpose built SIEM product, a flexible data platform with SIEM capabilities or build your security data lake.

A great analysis of the Splunk acquisition by Cisco by Allie Mellen and the Forrester team -
"There will also be an opportunity to evolve the Cisco story for Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR). Cisco acquired ITDR startup Oort (now part of Cisco) earlier this year. The combination of Splunk, Oort, and Duo will allow Cisco to tell a differentiated ITDR story. This would also demonstrate an emphasis on identity security that hasn’t previously existed at Cisco."

Very interesting shifts in the industry, for sure!

“So we’ve taken a different approach than other companies in this space, who’ve maybe acquired the components and stitched them together. We think it’s really important for the integrated platform to have all of the pieces built to integrate from day one,”.
“We just heard consistent feedback, after that initial launch, that people just want one easy [solution] like things that they can drop in that will automatically set up that connectivity for them,”.
Excellent interview with Annika Garbers about our #SASE platform, Cloudflare One. The goal is end-to-end simplicity with unified network and #SSE controls around the world - not a handful of legacy products stitched together. The launch of our native #SDWAN is unique in this market and huge boon for enterprises looking to truly embrace SASE.

Interesting article from #SDxCentral on what telcos are reading about. #Edge & private networks are out while threats and #security are in. Has the industry been focused on the wrong trends?
